While the kinda games i normally like to play like witcher and horizon forbidden west are ideal to play on my tv in 8k, i kinda wanna do some online shooters again (haven't for a long time), which is much better done at a desktop.

For that i wanna get a new monitor, but i have several demands that are non-negotiable.

Not oled
No fan
Not curved
4k
16:9
32"
144hz or higher
Variable overdrive, which lets the display go down to 60 hz during gameplay without ghosting or overshooting becoming a problem at all.

HDR is not important, but either it has exceptional hdr support with many mini LED backlights for no bloom and no latency using it during gaming, or it has backlight that can be set to static so it causes no issues during gameplay.

Price doesn't matter.

Interested in seeing if anyone has a suggestion, cause from what i've been able to find so far, not a single one ticked all the boxes.

Had the samsung g8 been offered as a non-curved version, then that would have been ideal... but alas.

i had the LG 32GQ950 for a couple months.
it's a great fast enough panel that does not cost a fortune.
brand new 2023 Panel, low power consumption, 160Hz Refreshrate and it's well tuned. "Normal Overdrive" already has a total response time of less than 6ms. which is very fast.

Looked at that one aswell - it ticks most boxes, but it doesn't have a variable overdrive, and the overdrive needed at 60 hz, 120 hz and 144 hz are all different to have an ideal image (which can be read in the rtings review you linked).

Dell G3223Q. I have one on my desk. It's IPS, not VA, so 60Hz should be more than fine without ghosting. VRR of "48-144hz via DisplayPort and HDMI". https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/g3223q#page-top

This is a great little lookup tool, though it doesn't include all displays. https://www.amd.com/en/products/freesync-monitors/#!

Sadly it does poorly at 60 hz.

It does fairly at 60Hz on the Fast overdrive setting. If you want as little motion blur as possible at 60Hz, it's one of the new 240Hz OLED monitors. Nothing on the market provides "without ghosting or overshooting becoming a problem at all." Even 540Hz 1080p TN panels with black frame insertion don't give you that.

Re-read my post :)

This one is probably the one that comes closest of what i've seen so far. Does 60 hz very well, and with a single overdrive mode that is ideal for all hz ranges.

But it doesn't have a very highend image otherwise.

I have taken a liking to Dell for monitors but I am not a gamer, so not sure if adaptive sync is the same as variable overdrive or not?

Dell 32 Inch 4K UHD Gaming Monitor (G3223Q) : Computer Monitors | Dell UK

It is not :)

Overdrive refers to how much voltage is being pushed to the pixels - more aggressive profiles gives more voltage, resulting in lower response times, but more overshoot (inverse ghosting). And here comes the issue - while high levels of voltage is often fine at high hz, it usually results in terrible overshooting at 60 hz. Thus you end up having to choose between either having too slow response times at high hz, and a fine image at 60 hz, or a fine image at high hz, but terrible overshooting at 60 hz.

This is what variable overdrive fixes ^^ Where you can use a single overdrive mode across all hz ranges with ideal results.

Doesn't look bad at all, but i can't find any indepth reviews of it - needless to say, i'm not buying a monitor without knowing everything i wanna know beforehand :) Also it's an older monitor at this point.

I might just bite the bullet and wait for this monitor to become available https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus-rog-swift-pg32ucdm

Would need to change my entire setup though, as i prefer to work on a single monitor, and i do so on a smallish table, and that oled wouldn't be suited to many hours of static desktop work at all (it would 100% get burnin, despite what all the oled fanboys claim). So would need a bigger table, keep my current monitor for desktop work, and then have the oled turned off at all times, except when i game.

New version of the LG monitor you mentioned seems to do better at 60 hz - might be what i get, so i can continue using my single monitor setup.

Only thing is that it's still not a "one overdrive" setting monitor.

High hz is better set to normal, while 60 hz is better with it set to off.
