Hello!

I recently got a new PC for the first time in many years (was using my laptop as a desktop computer with a monitor & peripherals for a long time) and I went with the 6750 XT which is a card that I think is serving me well, much more power than my old laptop which I upgraded from with a 4GB 3050 Ti.

I still have a 1080p 165hz monitor right now but in a couple of weeks when I get my pay I'm going to be getting a 1440p monitor. I've been testing the games I play with RSR to see how the GPU handles 1440p and for 90% of games it's absolutely fine, more intensive games like Alan Wake 2 require a little tweaking to get a nice high FPS, but still runs it very well.

The 6800 has been on sale at great prices recently (6750 XT was reduced to £275 and 6800 to £340) so has the 7700 XT. I was thinking about selling the 6750 XT and upgrading but I think I'm just suffering from FOMO. If I did sell the GPU and buy a 6800 or 7700 XT then I would lose about £150 on what is basically a brand new 6750 XT so then am I right in thinking it would be a false economy to do that, since I wouldn't really be getting such a great deal because of the hit to my wallet from selling my 6750 XT for which I bought a few months ago for even half of that I would be losing £150 and if you add that on to the price of a 6800 (£350 + £150) it would mean I really paid £500 for the 6800.

Would it make a lot more sense to go from the 6750 XT to something like the 7800 XT or 7900 GRE a bit later down the line? Is 6750 XT to 6800 a pretty pointless upgrade in the first place?

I apologise if I'm rambling, I have OCD and can get hung up on things like this.

You bought what you bought, so be happy with that and upgrade it when it's needed. Paying extra to get extra performance is subjective, so answer yourself instead of asking others - their opinions are worth the same as yours. Plus their financial situation may be different and it's where suggesting with their opinions once again stops making sense.

Yeah, you're absolutely right.

Sometimes I just need a lil nudge to remind me all is good and to stop overthinking stuff, thanks!

So one thing more - I recommend never ever going route of little upgrades for little money. You pay for thing needing upgrading earlier and don't get a WOW factor being great part of an upgrade ;) Like I wouldn't upgrade my GPU with one not being at least 100% faster. With CPUs similarly - last time 80% tempted me and we talk only gaming, fps performance.

Yeah that's what I was thinking!

I went from a mobile 3050 Ti with just 4GB of VRAM to this 6750 XT and it's blew my socks off! That's what I'm going to do I think, I want a 7900 GRE next I think, which is a very nice boost. After watching a lot of videos 6750 XT to 6800/7700 XT probably not even worth it because the difference is pretty negligible (~15%-20% on average).

What you said makes much more sense!

With graphics cards it's much better to just stop looking once you have bought one because then you start seeing other deals and get that FOMO feeling, hypothetically if I did indeed sell the 6750 XT and got a 6800 or 7700 XT then you know a 7900 GRE would come along on a sale like a month later and then I'd want that one, so you just gotta draw the line and remind yourself you're happy with what you have.

You could also go for a 7800XT if it's cheaper. yes it's an older card but there's something like 10% performance gap between the two. I'd be happy with the cheapest option out of the two

I don't think the 6800/7700XT is enough of an upgrade to justify the swap what is that like 20%.....

30% should be the minimum target with 40%+ being the goal.

I'd be looking at a 7800XT as a min and a 7900GRE if it's not significantly more expensive that way you don't have fomo

6750XT already does pretty well at 1080p with a 5600G you're gonna start hitting cpu limits in some games if not already.

Yeah I think that's the route I'm going to be going 7800 XT/7900 GRE, getting a 1440p monitor in the next week or so so gonna start pushing the 6750 XT more!

Wait for NVIDIA RTX 50xx or RDNA 4.

In the meantime get a 57/5800X3D and a 32 GB 2x16 RAM kit.

Your system is nowhere near fast enough to justify getting a GPU upgrade as it is now.

Yep i agree with oxrufiioxo, if you're going to upgrade you want to up-the-grade with a little more significant uplift to make it worthwhile. I too wouldn't settle with anything below 30% unless performance is tanked and the budget is restrictive. @1440p, for £50-£60 over the 7800XT, the 7900 GRE gets you there. 1440p can be extremely demanding in newer titles at top visual quality settings hence the more the rendering power the better.

Would it make a lot more sense to go from the 6750 XT to something like the 7800 XT or 7900 GRE a bit later down the line?

If your current card is performing at a respectable rate, achieving good enough visual candy, stick with it a little longer and set your targets on a GRE/better. The other benefit being, with newer Gen cards expected soon its highly likely these options will be met with some nice price slice action from the get-go or prior to next Gen availability.

Remember the golden rule (of gamin):

"If ya wanna play, ya gotsta pay, pay, pay", heeheehee :D

But seriously, GPU upgrades usually only make sense when the performance gains are substantial, which, unlike the jump from the 3050 to the 6750, it is not....

So I would either wait until you can buy a MUCH better, faster card now, OR, wait for a MUCH better, faster card to come out that will give you the big jump you desire...

Yeah that's what I'm going to do.

I wasn't even wanting to upgrade really I just felt like I missed out on a better deal and that's what made me think like this, but that's the case most of the time I assume...something better always comes along eventually.

Ty for the advice.

Yeah thanks that's what I'll be doing, I just think I had fomo since I saw prices for GPU's that were slightly better drop in price but on the whole I'm happy with what I have. Grass is always greener, etc..

Yeah I wasn't really wanting to upgrade right now as it were, I think I just had fomo since prices dropped on 6800 and I was just thinking what if I waited, torturing myself.
I am actually happy with the 6750 XT.

I do have my sights on a 7800 XT or 7900 GRE down the line and I would be wanting to upgrade other parts around that time then too, as you suggested. When that time comes it will be between either going full on AM5 or getting one of the AM4 x3D chips, I'm upgrading my RAM in a couple of weeks when I get my QHD monitor.

Thanks for the advice!

Upgrading from 6750 XT to 6800 sounds like one massive side grade to me. It's not worth it IMO, not even, remotely. You'd be better off saving a little more and then making a more substantial upgrade. I would also consider green team and compare performance/price to see what best matches your goals and budget.

With RTX 50 series around the corner and AMD's next Radeon cards slated for early 2025 it might make more sense to see how the market plays out.

Thanks, yeah I sort of felt like that was the case especially with the 6750 XT closing the gap even more so than the 6700 XT it sits nicely in-between the 6700 XT and 6800. Think it was just a bit of FOMO on my part since I saw the prices of the 6800 drop recently to what I paid for my 6750 XT but then the 6750 XT prices did also drop with it. Ebuyer eBay store had them at £330 and £275 respectively.

I'll definitely wait, maybe we will see similar reductions on the 7000 series once the new cards are announced/released, I'd love me a 7800 XT or 7900 GRE, I think that would make much more sense. But maybe the RDNA 4/50 series cards will make more sense depending on their price - performance.

I've buy my RX6750XT at 642€ in 2022, and yeah I know exactly how you feel, but don't overthink about it and be happy with what you have for now. Let's both wait the next generation and next price and see what will be our options ;)

Yeah, you're right! Thanks! :D It is still a very good card though tbh!
