If you tighten a waterblock too much can it cause issues?

I'm on my backup intel system till I can figure out what problem with ryzen system. It doesnt bsod or anything like that. Programs will randomly give errors when launching like relating to memory issues or get corrupted. I swapped different ram and stuff still happened. I'm using my old m.2 drive I thought was bad and it works on z390 board perfectly. maybe ryzen board is bad idk.

As far as I know, there are no such issues. The AMD IHS is a thick chunk of metal, it won't bend under pressure.

What RAM do you have? What settings do you run your CPU at? Maybe the issue is somewhere there.

patriot viper(samsung b-die) xmp has 2 profiles 3600&4000 I use the 3600 14-16-16-36 @1.45v

been running locked frequency 4 ghz mostly, smt off/ pbo off
5950x stock volts

I think it could have been from bios update. Idk if i can reflash old one.

I am very cautious to update stuff because shit like this happens

I know 3600 mostly works for nearly everyone, but the official spec is 3200. Maybe you drew the short straw on the silicon lottery?

Why do you have it locked at 4 GHz? Maybe it's too much for some of the cores?

I tried lower speeds with 2400 kit and still acts weird

to save/limit power. helps latency too

they can all do 4.6 fine

Hm... maybe some software issue, then?

did a fresh install with brand new 980 m.2 drive and still did it

example install msi ab reboot and rtss says dll error
has to be a board issue

its the weirdest shit i have ever experienced

No issues with 2600, 3600 or 5800X here, I have Eisblock XPX as waterblock. I've always tightened it to the max (with not brute force) for both AMD or Intel platforms without any issues.

It is definitely weird. Have you tried resetting your CPU/RAM to stock settings just in case? Maybe there's some weird gremlin with your current settings, or your board doesn't like running it that high.

Or maybe run memtest?

If your SSD is fine, and your RAM is fine, and your OC is fine, and there's no software error, either, then I'm out of ideas. :(

Edit: PSU, maybe?

Memtest was fine. I did a few weeks ago.

Psu has to be fine can play for hours never had issues. I also limit my fps to like 120. so good psu care. (never let it go beyond 300 ish watts)

I'm going to try tomorrow/later today. (I have reset I believe)I'll do a reset/op default. I have a 5600x I use sometimes so will pop that in.

Thanks for help. I will report back hopefully on ryzen system.

I used to be suspicious of the cooler having issues on AM4 chips because there always seems to be one corner of the IHS that appears uneven but haven't noticed any problems.
Keep in mind I'm still using a Pentium 4 block that absolutely never should work with Ryzen but I decided to finally put my Socket A mounts to use. Turned out pretty good.

So you are playing games ok, no bsod, no restarts/crashes but apps giving errors?

Have you checked event viewer for any WHEA?

The exe that dont get corrupted run fine no bsod.

no whea errors, I believe that relates to pbo.

The errors it did show were beyond weird telling me retired blocks on some drives but drives had no issues or anything with crystal disk info.

im going to shutdown and switch systems now, let the nightmare begin

"Crosses fingers"

I have 2 windows installs and both are messed up gonna try one more fresh install if I get errors I will just go back to intel system till I can buy a new board. Asrock steel legend b550m looks pretty good for matx 10 phase vrm.

its like this mf board is cursed

I did a reflash of bios and then tried 2 lesser ones. removed battery and this pos wouldnt forget the date was running no battery like if one was there.

I didnt bother to take a screen cap but the event log was like 300 errors after clearing and doing a reboot.

Im back on 9600k now all is well.

Hey man my ex gf hasn't had issues with a Ry 7 5800 (oem) build in 2021 with an AsRock B550 Steel Legend, 32 GB Crucial Ballistix Gamer Red 3600, Crucial MX 500, XFX R7 250X Ghost, SeaSonic 650 GX Focus. Thermalright ARO-14G, Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. This is on Win 11 to boot.

Have you checked for a motherboard bios update? Another cmos battery? You might need to consider testing the cpu in another motherboard to root out between the 2, have you looked at psu values while idle, under load?

tried 3 different bios, battery tongue checked and pretty strong. I built my mom a ryzen system but not going to touch that. psu values were always way above never dipped under load. I tried everything possible. I put system away for now.
also swapped cpu to 5600x same things
That board is fubar. everything on that system works on this intel 9600k board, ram/ m.2 drives/gpu

Haven't heard of anyone haven't tension issues with AM4 or AM5 socket.

It was a thought that came to mind. I can be rough.

Hey I did it on my rig, noticed board flex so i backed the nuts off to prevent damage before first boot in 2014.

Hey man CR2032 Coin Cells could be made from Lithium now, I wouldn't test a battery that way, a cheap voltmeter can do it.

I went back to this system, different sata cables, found 2 bad drives samsung 970 m.2 and gigabyte sata.

seems really fine now. that was really a nightmare. its great to see a clean event log

Thanks everyone

No probs on my AM4 setup, I have clamped down pretty tight with some older coolers and a shim.
