Hey guys, long time no talk! How's everyone doing? I hope this message finds you all healthy and happy.

I need some advice on upgrading my PC build. I'm way behind on the latest PC parts, so I'd really appreciate your help. I'm thinking about getting a Ryzen 7 5700X3D processor and maybe an RX 7800XT graphics card if I can afford it. My current setup is ancient—I haven't touched it since the first-gen Ryzen processors came out.

I want to make a big upgrade, but I don't want to have to rebuild my whole system. Unfortunately, AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory are still super expensive here in the Philippines.
My main goal is to be able to play Monster Hunter: Wilds at 1440p resolution with low to medium graphics settings.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or recommendations. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Edit: sorry for wall or text. I try to separate paragraphs but it auto formats it. Posting thru my phone. Apologies.

Id say go for it. Maybe also step up to 32GB DDR4 aswell, It will take away some possible bottlenecks and shouldnt be too expensive these days.

Long time no see. Thank you. Will be scouting parts for deals. Should I be concerned about the mobo? I already flashed it with the latest bios for support.

If its on the supported CPU list. You'll be fine. I dont think its worth spending money for another AM4 board when AM4 is EoL.

Just make sure you got good airflow inside your case. It will help keeping the vrms cool.

Yes it is thank goodness. Will do, thank you for the advice.

In terms of CPU support the board should be able to handle any AM4 CPU. The 5700X3D is a lot easier to handle than any AM4 R9 and also very easy to cool.
The PSU is more than fine for the hardware you aiming. I have the same with much power hungrier hardware.

I will agree on 32GB RAM.

If you made it in 2024 with a 7-8 year old CPU/GPU then I think you can squeeze a few more years from the platform.
Hence worth the (money) "investment" for the upgrades.

A good estimation is you'll get x2.5~3 (if not more) the current FPS in games with same res and settings.

That'll be a pretty massive upgrade for sure. 32GB RAM will not make a difference in games really.

Thank you for checking in- I do have the cpu sitting on my cart at the moment and I saw a tray type for sale for cheaper than one in box. I think the NH D15 will still be capable of cooling this, I don't plan on running overclocked on the chip will leave it as default.

It should atleast give me some headroom in running other apps like discord, browsers and obs along side the game right?

Appreciate you guys for the inputs :)

EDIT: for some reason I could not spell or type properly

Not really no, unless you have dozens and dozens of tabs active at the same time. I mean sure, you'll have some "headroom", but that is only relevant if you're actually hitting that roof. If you are not having that problem now you will not have the problem when you upgrade. The only time I actually noticed paging when I had 16GB was when I was GM'ing over Zoom and having Tabletop Simulator, several really big PDFs and dozens of Firefox pages open at the same time and I tried to launch something else, but it wasn't a big delay. The point is, sure, get 32GB, but only after you upgraded the other stuff.

That puts it in a better perspective. Thank you.

Also. Learning how to tune the 5700X3D may save on a few watts. This also means the chip will also run cooler.

Make sure your motherboard has a bios update to support it, also if you can find a 5800 oem for less than the 5700x, go for it as it is where the 5700x came from

Hey all HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I've managed to put everything back and I am now running on a R7 5700x3D with the PBO tuned!

Also got me a pair of 32gb 3600mhz cl18 kits and everything runs buttery smooth!!! I can feel the difference especially in space marine! Before I was not able to run it properly only 40+fps on 1440p medium but now am able to play comfortably at 90-120 fps on 1440p medium settings.

Also as for the GPU I'll be getting a free 3080 by February from a friend overseas. So I can save money and hold out for future platforms...! (til AM6 comes out:roll:)

IIRC do we still have a hardware gore section/post here? HAHAH I want to show what happened to this PC before putting in all the new shiny parts :D

(til AM6 comes out:roll:)
Its ok!

I could go with AM5 but I think I am going to hold out for AM6 and make it a really good upgrade :)

Cheers probably I can save up by then for a new platform :D

Btw here is the aftermath of not able to attend to PC due to some life events for the past 4 years that happened consecutively (also why I'm not active on the interwebs as of late.)

The AFTER pics (I've fixed the fan as I was too tired to notice that I connected the middle cpu fan incorrectly, already fixed prior to turning on the system.) :D
Complete disassembly and cleaned it to the best that I could. Even gpu everything off including the back plate. Surprisingly the thermal pads are still okay.

Everything dusted off to the best I could and re-pasted both cpu and gpu xD.

A friend of mine has a 5700X3D + 7800 XT combo and he loves it. The 9070 XT is coming out soon, which might have better RT, but if you don't care, then I'd say go for it. :)

That right there doesnt mean they smoke, it does mean for some don't know better to clean their parts every 3 to 6 months. Also they grab more when on the floor.

Heheh yeah alot has happened hence it go that dirty to the point of me unable to take care of it hahah.
But now I'm hoping 2025 will be much better year (hoping no more bad life episodes) will be back to regularly cleaning every 3-4 months span.

Boy jumping from gen1 ryzen (which I was not able to max 3200mhz only got it to 3000mhz) to ryzen 5xxx and 3600mhz ram (running 3800mhz) for the am4 platform feeeeeels super.
A major boost in FPS in Countersrike 2 from 90-120s to consistent 160-200. OMG.

Thanks for all the tips.
