hi

i have an rtx 4090 and i am not sure if i want to upgrade to the rtx 5080

I found that the 5070 will be on par with the 4090,

the 5070 have 6144 core and the 5080 have 10752 , 75% more core.

The rtx 5080 should be 75% more more powerful than the 4090/5070, with a TPD of only 360 watt

the 4090 is still ok for my need (1440p gaming) but having something that is 75% more powerful and less power hungry is tempting

the only thing that bother me is the 16 go of ram. why 16 go for a rtx 5080 instead of 32. is 16 go gonna be ok for the future.

Keep your card

Keep 4090. No reason to upgrade right now, especially when the claims of the 5070 being as fast as the 4090 is just marketing talk. Wait for actual reviews.

someone in the forum said that the rtx 5070 is better only in frame generation and i am not a fan of that. the 5080 will probably only be a little faster in raster than 4090 . thx for your help, i will keep the 4090 and wait for the rtx 6000. thx for your help

It will be a sidegrade at best. NVIDIA's marketing was somewhat misleading, the only card that is more powerful than the 4090 will be the 5090. The 5070 needs DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation to achieve similar frame rates, and this is not going to be supported in every game out there.

You will be disappointed if you sell your 4090 and go for a 5080

I agree with the others but I admit I am very curious how the two compare on just raster.

EDIT: And yeah, the 5070 is only as fast as 4090 if you include multi frame generation, plus normal dlss too I believe. Man that statement is going to mislead so many people.....

Yeah I checked the performance with a YTber showing 5090 getting 29FPS in BM Wukong without DLSS/FG, while I get 21FPS in that exact location, that is like 35% uplift with Full Path Tracing, probably less with rasterized games

30-40% sounds about what it's going to end up being over the 4090....The interesting thing will be how much worse is the 5080 which is basically half the 5090....

Yeah it only really makes sense to upgrade from the 40 series if you have a 4080 or below and playing at 4K, otherwise anyone with a card should probably just keep it unless they really really want to experience the very latest

"Somewhat misleading"

And really by experience that means Multi frame frame generation. Neural rendering is probably years out... I mean it's been 6 years since real time RT debut with the 20 series and we still only have a handful of games that do it well as it is.

I guess it'll depend on how much extra work it is but most games will still be developed with the PS5 in mind.

Can't wait to see the green teams fanboys hopes and dreams crushed when they realize that's only with frame generation x4....

-Bruh, completely misleading.

What you're going for is "it isn't an outright lie".
I would say completely misleading if you think they mean raster, which I bet they knew some people would

But even if you buy into all their ai bs and like this multi frame generation its still kinda misleading, cause some games aren't gonna work well with it, some games aren't gonna have it. Anyway, I guess the level of misleading depends on what you originally took it to mean. aka... did you read the fine print?

-Yeah that's why I consider it outright misleading, but not lying per se. NV will tell you the truth if you dig in, but it is not obvious at first sight. That's what misleading someone is.

No asterisks or anything to suggest it isn't stock settings vs stock settings, the 5070 won't play games as fast as a 4090 without a "sometimes" feature activated. It's not apples to apples.

If we want to bring modified settings or "sometimes" features or CPU limits into the picture we can start calling a lot of stuff as fast as other stuff and then just laugh it off afterward.

A 4060 is as fast as a 4090 if you use a slow enough CPU in a new enough game at a low enough resolution. Wouldn't just say the 4060 : 4090 performance in such a bald faced way in that scenario either and have it be called anything other than misleading.

Yeah, can't disagree. I mean I don't know how strong the 5070 is, but I wonder if there's some kind of true claim ( I mean true without software tricks) they could have made that would have gotten budget gamer's excited without misleading them. Like is it as strong as a 4080? That tagline would have been perfectly exciting for midrange gamers, if true though, we don't know if it is.....

Admittedly, "as fast as a 4070 ti" or maybe "4070 ti super" doesn't carry quite as much punch. Maybe thats why they did what they did. But I mean it sounds ridiculous from the offset. Why would they give a $550 card previous halo card performance? Usually that goes to whatever's next down in the stack, like in this case would be 5080, but its yet to be determined if thats true. The specs certainly don't elude to it, so hopefully there's architectural changes that might make the difference. It has a lot of bandwidth, but its down so many cores, idk...

I wouldnt do that, keep the card.

I've got a bridge to sell.

P.S. Selling your 4090 to buy anything but 5090, would make you a great customer for my bridge.

I mean, it isn't unheard of. But the 4090 is like the 1080 Ti in the sense that it is... very powerful. Blackwell would need to be twice as good as it is to pull that stunt. The 6070 is probably gonna do it though.

My friend is still running wild with his 2080 Ti, keep your 4090, it will keep you running good for years.

Have a 4090 , 5090 would be its replacement , also 5080 super or Ti ,if and when , plus if it has 24GB , would be a interesting , time will tell , if you wait 6 months or so , it's not like your missing out with your 4090

"The xx70 is the new xx90!"
Any memes yet? :wtf::p

Wait for reviews. Always. Then consider that uplifts of much less than 50% generally aren't worth it unless you've money burning a hole in your pocket.
