hey all.
i have beeen using win 10 pro ever since no issues at all..total dev options and features..
reecently i have got a update says upgrade to win 11 for free....is it worth a upgradee or should i just stay on win10 pro. ?

Some people think it's fine, some people think it's literally the worst thing that has ever been made. You have to try it to know where on that spectrum you are. I like it fine on the laptop, on the desktop not so much, but I will say it was snappier than Win10.

win 10 pro. its more stable. every other update windows 11 seems to break in some way.

Ideally you want to stay on the latest stable build of Windows, that is, Windows 11 24H2. This is the right balance of stability and newness for 99.99% of users, and the fact some people might dislike the stock UI and workflow doesn't affect its quality.

But I reckon Windows 11 isn't mission critical level of stable just yet. If this is a business system, Windows 10 might make sense. For now, anyway. The clock is ticking and time is running out. Once it's out of support, it will be a no man's land.

I'd say stay on Win 10 until they force you to 11 or 12. Sometimes free isn't the best choice but to each their own.

you old enough to remember vista? this is basically vista or 8 again. microsoft will cry about how you need to upgrade. nothing will happen and people will stay back on vista. after a few years microsoft will relent and release a fixed version like 7 or 10. and the cycle repeats

Win10 off the main update ring if you're a creator and need everything to actually work.
Win11 if your time, attention and job don't matter to anyone including yourself. Cheers.

Yeah, but Vista was great mate

Windows 11 is great if you like to click five times to get to what you used to need two clicks for. It's awesome if you want half baked updates. It's great ifI could go on and on and on. Microsoft has lost their way.

I dislike Windows 11 so much that I bought my first Mac! If Microsoft is going to continue to shove buggy garbage down our throats then I will move on. For now, I still have a gaming PC with Windows 11 but I see SteamOS in my future for that use too.

But from what I know, there are ways to optimize windows 11 and minimize its shortcomings. Something similar to shutup10 software used to grant some more control over windows 10 and disable some of its ugly features. I'll keep windows 10 till its end of life and will then switch to 11 and install shutup10 or whatever it is called. That's my plan. If you don't want to convert to linux, this is the best you can do I guess.

There has been plenty of media coverage about Windows 11 24H2's issues. WindowsLatest has covered this extensively but other tech media sites have also highlighted the various issues.

As mentioned earlier some have experienced no problems, others feel like it's the worst thing ever. The problem is you don't get to choose where you fall. You simply have to install it and see for yourself how well 24H2 likes your specific hardware & software combination. For gamers, there are some very specific issues (e.g. Ubisoft titles) that have been heavily documented.

I find Windows 11 23H2 to be pretty stable. My normal M.O. is to upgrade the operating system about 9 months after it releases. This isn't just Windows, this is also pertinent to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. So generally speaking I upgrade around June the year after the new release launches. This pretty much ensures a smoother transition with fewer bugs because I've skipped nine months of bug patches. Note that Microsoft is still offering security patches for Win 10, Win 11 22H2, Win 11 23H2 so it's not like I'm a fool for staying back on the previous release. Apple does the same thing, offering security patches for its two prior releases (e.g., iOS 16 and iOS 17, macOS 13 and macOS 14 Sonoma right now).

I will download the Windows 11 24H2 ISO sometime this summer before Windows pushes out 25H2. That way I can install (or reinstall) 24H2 when I want without being force fed 25H2 Redmond dogchow in the fall.

One of the more innovative additions that Windows 11 24H2 features is advertisement in the desktop UI. Enjoy!

I know many people here love to hate on Apple, Macs, iPhones, macOS, and iOS but at least Apple isn't shoving ads down your throat. And Windows is still payware. Sure, Mac/iPhone users pay the "Apple tax" but curiously Apple doesn't seem to need to foist advertisements on its users. Curious why Microsoft -- who charges for Windows -- thinks they need additional advertisement. Note that Windows 10 and prior versions didn't do this.

Queue the chorus of Linux lovers who will say "I'm soooo glad I ditched Windows for DodgyBrosLinux!" OK, no ads but you didn't cut down on your system administration load, that's for sure. AHahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! And you still need to keep a Windows boot drive around to run diagnostics software and firmware patching software for peripherals, etc. And there are some games that won't run on Linux (mostly competitive multi-player using kernel-level anticheat software).

Anyhow, best of luck.

Windows 10 support ends in less than a year, so might as well move to Windows 11.

they said the the same thing about windows 8. wasnt true. the real security risk is how bad microsofts QA department is.

Considering the glitches happening with 24H2, it might be a good idea to hang tight with Win 10, at least until April.

I know, I know, but I am telling you this time they are serious. It won't happen overnight but it's coming. There will still be options for power user's to delay but for the mainstream the will get updated.

Yup, I've been down that road as well. Windows updates often break "Optimizations" and sometimes the optimizations break Windows updates. It's all a thing and that's fine to deal with on my Gaming PC but not my daily driver. I do too much important stuff on my daily driver, I can't have it breaking down every time M$ puts out an update. Not that any of the updates/optimizations I installed completely borked Windows 11 for me. It's just a hassle. Windows 11 is not going away anytime soon in my home. My wife's PC runs it too, she loves Excel. Even though she also dislikes Windows 11, I'm going to need to really love the Mac and know it inside and out to get her to make that switch.

i updated....to win11...can say its stable..yet iam new to it.
but seems ok.

Updated to W11Pro about two weeks after its release and nothing to complain. Haven't had any problems even with the newest 24H2 version.

I have been on Windows 11 since October 2021 and the system is nice. Had some smaller issues with it but nothing too bad.

Did you do something to turn off its telemetry and other "bad" stuff they say about it? Or is this your assessment without any effort to modify it?

Please stick to the topic.

Totally off topic. My gentoo linux from 2006 has less maintanance as those five or six times reboots for a single windows 11 pro 23h2 / 24h2 update. My mainboard points not to the windows bootloader - so I know that for sure!

Windows takes up much more time downloading per hand every software from computerbase.de/downloads for the intel wlan / 3x webbrowsers / update packages / amd gpu driver / amd cpu driver / mainboard driver / zippers / text editors. Moving those files via the file manager from my smartphone to the windows partition. Than also installing. Waiting for those input options and waiting that those installer finish.
(computerbase has a nice website which lists most of the windows related software and has the downloads for it)

You should not write stupid statements when you are not a long term user - and you lack the knowledge for it. My gnu linux experience states before 1996.

I dislike "Samsung" "Fake" android more because I use it.

Windows 11 Pro 24h2

Personally I would recommend to wait a bit longer for the switch to windows 11. The user interface takes up more time. AS the options are more hidden in the settings menu or the windows explorer.

I took no effort in blocking the "bad" stuff.

My primary computer has similar specs to the one in your profile. I used w11 23h2 just fine with lots of scripts and both no updates and updates. Copilot aside, w11 is perfectly fine compared to w10. However, you should follow the old rule, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or at least have backups of your data and flash drives ready for recovery
