question about super resolution

Hey all.

I still have a 1080p monitor, but am going to make the jump to a 1440p oled in a couple of months.
But I want to test my pc already for it, and now I've heard of super resolution that you can enable in nvidia control panel.

But when enabling the 1440p there, it it the same level of resource intensity as that normal 1440p gaming is? So for example i can expect the same fps ingame then both on 1080p with 1440p super resolution enabled compared to normal 1440p with the new monitor?

ps, i know my pc can handle 1440p quite well, cause i have an 5800x3d and a 4070 ti super, but I'm still curious to see my fps on 1440p beforehand.

I would just set the resolution of your game to 1440p (in the game settings)

not sure if super resolution 1440p is the same as native 1440p

That's what i wanted to do yes. But then still, can i expect the same fps, cause without super resolution obviously i cannot set 1440p ingame with my 1080p monitor

I think you can, I have several games which give me the option for 4k & even 8k if I am not completely wrong (and i own a 1440p monitor), maybe some games don't offer the option?

Either way your 4070ti/s should smoke 1440p, especially with dlss

For me it doesnt matter which game i play. Without enabling super resolution, 1080p is the highest i can select.
But ye, i know it should be a blast on 1440p especially with dlss. Still curious though what the fps difference will be.

Did you look at the reviews of the 4070ti/s? 4070ti/s

Just compare 178 frames average vs 138 frames average, it loses on average 28.9 % frames.

It's not perfect. But should suffice for now.

You could also enable super resolution and look if the difference is around 29 - 30%

1440p DLSS.Quality should perform around 1080p Native minus 10%.
For example, if you get 100FPS @ 1080p Native, you will get 90FPS @ 1440p DLSS.Quality

Yes. However, keep DLSS and the sort OFF. Setting DSR to 1.78x will result in native 1440p output.

Note : There are two versions of upscaling you can set on NV RTX cards :
1) Usual DSR - higher res. gets downsampled to whatever native resolution your screen has.
2) "DL" version, ie. DLSS "enhanced".
If you want to see native performance at higher resolution, you have to choose first option.
This should be within 5% of true native experience.

I wonder how much visual difference is there, between DL "enhanced" DSR and "native" DSR solution...
Of course, on base resolution screen (example : 1440p DSR vs. 1440p DLDSR/DLSS[?] on 1080p screen).

There's absolutely zero difference. Running 1440p on a 1080p display and running 1440p on a 1440p display provide the same FPS. DSR will be exhausting for this matter.

I would say DLSS/FSR on Performance = 1080p.

Balanced rather. Performance gets better framerates and, usually, noticeably worse visuals.
