NVIDIA Investigates GeForce RTX 50 Series "Blackwell" Black Screen and BSOD Issues

it’s that black and white here. The thread is about the GPU failures; not people’s purchasing decisions. If you single out a member because of there 5090, 7900XTX, pack of gum it’s a problem it is toxic and I will give you points for it happily.

Yes the thread is about GPU failures, and an organic debate came up about how these failures are manifesting in GPU's that cost an arm and a leg. I'm not sure why you are here, everything is under control and fine.

Faulty meaning bad power connector design.
Faulty meaning bad drivers bricking cards.
Faulty meaning capacitors burning.
Faulty meaning specs lower than advertised.
Connector has been a non issue (for me and my friends with 4090 at least) so don't really care. I prefer the 12vh over several 8 pins

It's just a driver that's supposedly the issue, obviously it's going to get fixed.

Capacitors burning? Really? Capacitors don't burn from any other company? This is just mindless attack on a specific brand cause you don't like it.

Again the ROPs thingy, nvidia is already on it and offers RMAs.
But honestly you tell me, if AMD or Intel had the fastest card and was suffering all of these problems, would you still recommend it? I wouldn't. Not to friends or family or anyone.
They all suffer from these problems and people still recommend these products. You don't think amd or intel ever had (or still have) any issues? What are we even talking about man, come on now.

Yep. Speaking up against market trends (and not individuals), while isn't the main topic of the thread, is not toxic in my opinion.
I applaud TPU for posting stories about all manufacturers whether good or bad. This is the whole point of the free press even if it does fail to deliver sometimes.

On topic, if I'm not mistaken, the whole point of reporting about 'black screens' is to help customers make good purchasing decisions and be aware of possible problems. Now we are being told we are toxic by the moderator. WTF! Why even post such articles (two in a row right now) if not to help people understand what's going on?

Absolut disaster from the Nvidia, that not waiting... For the RTX 5090 and it for 2000 $, for that? People are paying for "Quality"... Actually don't buy it...

No, you are told that calling people sheep and idiots for buying nvidia is toxic. I can point you to at least 20 posts like this in the last week alone. How would you feel if I called everyone buying amd an idiot? 20 times a week?

Jesus, dude, graphics cards are not a religion. Are you that insecure that people have blanket opinions on companies and purchases?

EDIT: show us a post where someone called you an idiot.

Agreed, the whole problem here is cards are black screening, crashing, artifacting, buying a card right now is a bad decision. But saying so is toxic?
I think if the market were normal, and Nvidia didn't have a near monopoly there wouldn't be any backlash for calling a problem out for what it really is.

I’m happy you hold an opinion. If all any member has to contribute to the thread is off topic arm chair financial advice then I encourage them to stay on topic before they are thread banned. I am certain Forbes and other financial focused forums would be happy to discuss that.

They're probably investigating how to make people pay even more after the fix.

Haha most early adopters throughout the world haven't even received their cards yet, hard to become more frustrated than that and this situation is almost a month in. Absolute circus.

issues ranging from display flickering to complete system failures, with some experiencing blue screen of death (BSOD) errors during normal operation.

We can conclude abnormal behaviour is the current "normal behaviour" for the 5000 series NVIDIA graphic cards.

edit: The topic is not yet locked

Page 2, 3, 4 just now had hardly anything to do with the black screen or bsod issues. Maybe these pages were talks about buying decisions and nvidia market share.

I've read comments saying Physx is getting dropped. So, are they going to do a wrapper to let it execute in CPU or something? If I have Physx compatible GPU lying around, I could use it as a dedicated Physx card like back in the day with the GT9300 and GT9400, but in that case when Nvidia drops support for the old card will it break compatibility with it?

Do you even need compatible drivers for the old card for it run physX only?

Please make a dedicated forum post. I saw that question several times. So others will find your topic and hopefully an answer.

I saw that physx topic in other topics which it should not belong to in the past days.

Don't these companies do testing and quality control anymore? Surely they can afford a department of gamers testing their driver and performance all day long.

Whataboutism: Hardware in my viewpoint is like green bananas which may turn rotten or yellow at home.

The possibility for firmware updates and driver fixes makes it easier to sell bad products. Of course it will be stated that these issues can not be found easily before a product goes in the market.

eh, they already were idiots for buying them in the firs place, not a single review says anything positive about the value for money.
Dunno, a lucky few of us managed to buy 50-series cards at MSRP. In the current market, at MSRP, a 5080 was better value than a 4080S, and a 5070Ti is better value than a 4070Ti or 4070TiS. Even at the 15% markup most stores are charging, the 5080 and 5070Ti are "standard" value, no better or worse than the alternatives, so I'm not sure how buying one at the marked-up price makes those people idiots.

I was genuinely in two minds to sell my unopened £729 5070Ti yesterday, since I could eBay it for £900+ easily, but then I decided that I don't really care about the money. I can't speak for everyone but I feel if you are in the market for a 5070Ti you probably don't have trouble paying bills or putting food on the table. After that, what else is money for?

It's OBVIOUSLY "user error" ...

if nvidia send me a gpu for free, i will say it's user error, on camera, i will make a YT video about it :D

At MSRP, the 5080 vs the 4080 Super is the same kind of stagnation that Intel did during the quad-core i7 era. Personally, I don't have much against it, as at least it lets you keep your current GPU for longer.

What I have a word against is the recommendation to buy a product based on the fact that "there is nothing else available in that segment at the moment".

I would have sold it as long as you have something else, just like I sold my 5700 XT for £600 (I bought it for £450) during the mining craze, just because I found a 2070 for £500. That's £100 in my pocket for nothing.

just because they are the only game in town doesn't mean these prices aren't idiotic, and the people supporting this are let's say not the smartest and aren't doing the rest of us any favour either
Nvidia doesn't make the pricing, they make the price tag, people make the pricing by buying in, that's how markets work

Man this launch is the sloppiest i have ever seen from Nvidia LOL.

Let hope they can iron out the multiple issues before the masses could get their hands on the elusive RTX5000 series

I really don't think that DIY composes the majority of GPU being shipped, and worldwide you have millions of people, students included who need a powerful PC for other stuff than gaming. Sometimes the school itself is going to buy a whole fleet of gaming PC. Nvidia market share started to shoot off once GPGPU became more common. I don't think that it's a coincidence. In the "GPU only for gamer" era, The market was much more balanced. But after 2014 ? And PC makers know that even their gaming laptops/PC are not exclusively bought by gamers. Hence why you don't see more prebuild/SI equipped with AMD gpus.

I will never shut up about the fact that AMD being more aggressive when it comes to productivty support will help them. Let's assume that productivty is "only" 20% of Nvidia userbase. If AMD could only take half of that, that would be a lot. Just think of how awesome it would be to see a dell XPS, HP Envy, Thinkpad with Halo strix instead of a RTX 4060/5060. AMD killed the shitty MX geforce in laptops. great. But if you want to kill off the mid-range nvidia GPU being used in those premium prossumers laptops, you will have to offer more than gaming performance.

That is a daunting task for AMD and i see progress being made albeit expenssive for AMD to get there.
Now i saw a card which did this with the RX 7900 XTX but for me that card was even though i can afford it not really needed
So that is why i skipped buying it and now they pulled out of the high level cards building which i understand as well
Because their income dropped alot, it was a clear choice to step back out of the race for nothing
So i see it as a smart choice even when a card is very good it is burned no matter how good is performs as being garbage no matter if it does compete very well for a much lower price
I noticed the ones who show results only show certain places in a game where is for a few seconds beat the competition.
I put ngreedia in my NEVER EVER BUY that crap section for the rest of my life.
Fanboyish kills a real honest look at matters everywhere, i am no fan of any company they are all busy to make more profit and the fact that a large amount of people act like serious problems is nothing is beyond my logical brain.
AS I NEVER EVER WILL USE nonsense upscale garbage which does often are clearly failing i stay away from it till i probably die
What i have seen from upscaling it looks awefull no matter what reviewers are babbling and now i finally see others actually showing that it often fails miserable.
Sure in a century or more it will become better but for what i have seen by others who bought the insane expenssive cards it turned my stomach that they spend their savings for that worthless stuff.
Not even talking about the massive drop of FPS these technics do make in all games yes i can run all my games in 4K but as usual i turn it back as the GPU can not cope if you switch the settings to MAX, it all becomes a slowboat pain in the behind.
And is not being solved by any gpu builder yet, they still are not good enough
Which has been proven constant in my task to help people with pc problems no matter what brand they buy or like i always vent my reality view in these matters and give constructive advise.
Which is often what they do not want to hear, you have to switch back to much lower settings ....... to finally get what you want to see.
That is why 89% switched back to 1080p or 1440p on their sometimes massive monitors ...

Blackwell apparently won't run 32-bit CUDA. No one could answer me that just yet, I also have an RTX A2000 (slot power and compact), and Ampere is still supported and will remain supported through most of Blackwell's service life, so when my 5090 arrives I will try having both of them installed and we'll see if functionality is retained. If it is, to me the issue is considered resolved.

No, if they bought a specific brand that the internet has a hatred for they are idiots or sheep. It has been the theme the last couple of months around here :kookoo:
Are you insinuating that Nvidia customers/fans are somehow "persecuted" around here?

If you can refund your cards until Nvidia sorts this calamity out. It obvious now these products are cooked and will need time to get sorted.

Wow... Every day, the Blackhell situation worsens, and the news just keeps getting tragically comical... Tomorrow, maybe I'll wake up and see on CNN:
"Breaking News: NVIDIA's Blackwell GPU prototypes are behind the massive fires in recent weeks."
"Breaking News: Blackwell Boards Come to Life and Start Kidnapping People to buy drugs."
