AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT Official Performance Metrics Leaked, +42% 4K Performance Over Radeon RX 7900 GRE

Actually, that is close to what is happening atm: few rays are actually traced, because the hardware is weak. The rest of the data is extrapolated. It's just not fed back into a rasterized illumination engine because that doesn't make much sense (you'd have to do traditional illumination on the side, that would be even more computationally intensive).
Your signature linking to that 6 plus year old thread is hilarious and prescient

Why did you say RTRT so many times in the beginning? Is this real time ray tracing?

Also, in reference to CG artists. You must mean that they enjoy real time ray tracing versus having lower end scenes that they then render for the full effect. Or are you saying that having the RT cores allows for full scene rendering to be done faster?
Tripp Hawkins was the first person I ever heard use the phrase Ray Tracing. As far as I understand it Ray Tracing has to do with the advent of 3D animations and the PS was exactly that. RT is not something that is used to give your card longevity and if you don't have a top end card or enough VRam it can be a moot point. It is ok though as there is a little thing called Hyper RX that has me not thinking about performance while playing Avowed at 4K.

Very interesting!

I have a 7900 GRE card and recently got a 4K (3840 x 1250) display. Wouldn't hurt with that boost in some titles. Especially at a relatively reasonable cost.

The PS being what?

If these things overclock well my wallet is ready

Oh I see... I'm guessing that's why there's so little difference between RT on/off ?
Sort of, yes. What RT can do is what you see in the tech demos. Only tech demo don't have to dedicate resources to path finding for you enemies, sound and whatnot. So they get to push things a harder.
The other thing is, as good as RT can be, artists and devs still have to learn how to wield it. Iirc there are a few titles that make good use of global illumination and you can really see a difference. Game engines still have to make look pretty with and without RT, another thing making devs' lives harder.

as it's usual with AMD, the hype will turn into tears next Friday.

Could be that AMD plans to release them at the same price point, which is $550.

If this is the price/performance, I am in, all the way in.
If the XT is at 550$ MSRP it will be a damn good price, since it will beat the 5070 by a lot in raster and match it in RT (according to the leaks at least). 550 gets my stamp of approval :toast:

They need to price these agressively like they used to back in the day with the HD5870/5850 HD4890/4870/4850 and so on....
They're making enough money other places in the company that even if they ended up being flush, or took a small loss, gaining back the market share would be worth it for the next gen.
Especially if they released a banger card next gen.
Not to mention they could maybe take a similar approach to consoles, lose money, but make it up elsewhere. (For example: With professional cards)

Personally, this is why I hate these articles based on rumors.

Their main function is to prep AMD for failure and of course, the haters will run with it accordingly.

I mean, look at how bad the beloved Ngreedia 50 series launch has been, yet none of the rabid fanbois or influencers are nailing Ngreedia to the cross.

Nah, they are saving all the nails for AMD.

these are not rumours anymore, it is AMD's own numbers

you can't excuse what AMD does with what Nvidia does, Nvidia can do whatever it wants, they own the market.

It's a game that has better visuals than the usual. You know, the reason you'd buy new a GPU in the first place, to play games with better visuals?
...what in the hot, crispy, Kentucky fried fuck are you even talking about ?

Better is subjective. Even in the darling case of Alan Wake 2 and all those RT Path Tracing 8k mega graphic textures, there's a number of visual defects that detract from the fidelity and realism. To the point that in some games it's almost another method of viewing the game instead of an outright better method. I've often felt that the end goal of Path Tracing is so developers don't have to do as much work on the front end. But that's a long off goal

Weird, I read in the title "leaked" which might or might not be true.

But by that logic, the 10 or so other articles based on rumors were also official numbers?

thats the gist of my post.

Exactly my point, no matter what, AMD loses, Ngreedia wins.

Hence why I love this quote from X:

Don't even waste your time with that kiddo.

He admitted on another thread he buys nvidia regardless, so he's here just to troll anyways.

I don't think that there is much to argue about whether RT looks better or not (not counting the games that run RT at 1/4th the resolution because the brand that sponsors said games don't have fast enough RT cards). The usual argument against RT (which I agree with btw) is the performance penalty. But whether or not RT / PT looks better than raster is not even up for comparison, that's why CGI used it, they don't use raster.

Anyways this will be a moot point since if the XT is at 550$ it will up against the 5070 and I can't see the 5070 being faster even in RT, at least not by a lot. So both companies will offer similar RT performance.

yes AMD loses no matter what, they have the best hardware at the best prices and everyone is just an idiot. Sure, whatever lets you sleep at night.
Coping hard

By CGI, do you mean movies ? Movie studios have the budget to own/rent server farms that enables them to spend hours of render time on every single frame for perfect raster and lighting, this is industrial scale ray/path tracing and couldn't be further removed from consumer grade game RT/PT

Why aren't they doing it on raster? It will be faster and cheaper. I assume because it just doesn't look as nice, does it?

The AMD fanboys have long since conceded defeat. It's the corporate-team-agnostic people hoping for AMD to go well and expecting a good AMD GPU to buy now. It's quite a strange turn of events.\

I think AMD is going to make huge marketshare inroads if they price correctly. nvidia has made a mess, and they can regain foothold.

If they follow this with a 9060 (12gig min) worth its name, we will be talking about a real comeback and nvidia currently has nothing to respond with on that segment.

Did you read my post at all before replying ? They have the means to own/rent large server farms and they're also in a competitive industry, so of course they're gonna make the investment to have perfect raster & RT so they can be praised about the arts of their movies but they do that by pushing frames so complexely created that even on modern hardware, render rate is HOURS PER FRAME, not FRAMES PER SECOND like in gaming, we boot up our PCs and get gaming on the spot, animation movies take MONTHS to be completed so this is impossible to use as a comparison point

9070 (not the XT) is faster than the 5070 and more energy efficient.
But no halo card this time so no one will buy it. AMD knows this so I wonder why they didn't bother.

Plus I always have a laugh watching poor people with $600 RTX 4070s act like $620 7900 XTs are slow. In 8/10 games you're the slowpoke.
