Case Lian Li Lancool III
Audio Device(s) Creative Soundblaster Z
Power Supply Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 PSU
Mouse Razer Viper 8K
Keyboard Corsair K70 RGB Pro MX Speed Switch Silver
Software Windows 11 Pro
Finally got my hands on a PNY Triple Fan OC RGB card today. Used DDU to remove drivers and traces of my 4070 TI 12GB...swapped the cards and installed the Nvidia Drivers 572.83. Also using the latest beta version of MSI Afterburner to control fans and OSD. A good majority of my games run properly with my boost clocks hitting 2920 with no messing with Afterburner to overclock. I am having issues with certain games...where the clocks on the card stay at 750 MHZ and doesn't move. The games I am having the issues with:

Assassin's Creed: Shadows
Asassin's Creed: Mirage
Star Wars: Outlaws
Stalker 2
Alan Wake 2

Games that run fine where card boosts to 2920:

Alone in the Dark
Banishers; Ghosts
Horizon Forbidden
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Cyberpunk
The Last of Us Part 1
Nobody Wants to Die
Sniper Elite: Resistance
Starfield
Warhammer: Space Marine 2
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

Overall...I tried to search and found that it may be an issue with Nvidia drivers, not working well with Frame gen and MSI Afterburner. Many have fixed by not over volting the card...I don't even do that, If I want the list of problematic games to run correctly, I have to go into Nvidia CP and set power management mode to Maximum and then the card runs between 2860 and 2920.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Specs:

MSI X670E Tomahawk Wifi MB with Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32 GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL30
PNY RTX 5080 OC Triple Fan RGB
2- 4TB Western Digital SN850X HDD''s (OS Drive and Data and Games drive)
Corsair 360 AIO to cool the 7800X3d

Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (most up to date build)
Nvidia Drivers 572.83
AMD Chipset drivers 7.02.13.148

Any thoughts appreciated...

Not having this issue with my 5080 and same drivers, only crossover in your list is Alan Wake 2 though.

Can you force the game/s to prefer maximum performance in the Nvidia App / Nvidia Control Panel and retest?

If I set to maximum performance, the card runs between 2860-2920 MHZ and never lower. Absolutely!

Problem solved then? it may prove worth reporting this bug, but for now you have a workaround either on a per game basis or you can set that globally.

Running at max clocks 24/7 is not a solution. I don't know why this stupid mode selector is still in the driver menu, to be honest.

Agreed. If it's a common one, it'll probably get fixed soon at the rate Nvidia has been pushing out hotfix after hotfix lately.

What if you uninstall Afterburner? Does the problem persist?

It may be an issue of Afterburner not playing nice with a new driver version.

I'll be the first to say it... these Release 570 drivers for the Blackwell cards are just horrible. I've been running the professional versions (R570 U3 but currently equivalent to the game ready release) and I'm getting stability issues on Ampere. This branch reminds me of Adrenalin 2020, and that was a fiasco I had a front seat to. Shame you really can't use 566.36 with 50 series.

Not a solution, more of a workaround, but setting on a per game basis also sidesteps the 24/7 issue, I actually haven't tested in a long time if the global setting forces full 3d clocks at all times though, or just when 3d load is detected. Reporting is definitely worthwhile.

As far back as I can remember you can set it on a per game/program basis.

I was able to set individual game settings in the Nvidia app, except for the Assassin's Creed and Outlaws. Stalker 2 worked Nvidia app. Seems that Nvidia and Ubisoft might have either engine issues or just don't work. However, I have no issues with Avatar, Frontiers of Pandora...works with default power setting...who knows!

I posted a thread on Nvidia forums and found something interesting. The issue has nothing to do with MSI Afterburner. A poster there does not use AB and has the same issue. It is definitely an Nvidia driver issue. The workaround for some is to go to global settings in Nvidia app or Nvidia Control panel and set power management mode to Prefer Maximum power. I have had rare issues with Nvidia drivers over the years, but with the release of the 5000 series...they are groping around in the dark. Hopefully Nvidia will fix this

For sure this has to be the worse overall release from them at least since GTX 400 series at a min.

I’m having the same issue. I don’t have afterburner but I do have the Asus overclock program. The only game I’ve tried where i noticed it was assassins creed shadows. I was trying to figure out what’s going on with the game performance when i noticed the clock speed. Unfortunately max power in the nvidia app doesn’t seem to fix it for me. I’m currently using the Nvidia’s app auto overclock feature where it scans my PC and then recommends a setting. It’s at 31% and it’s taking forever. Hopefully it works. It’s a pretty annoying bug and I upgraded from AMD to the 5080 where everyone told me how bad the AMD drivers were. I never had an issue with their drivers. This is the first time I’ve had an issue like this.

Yep. These drivers suck.

You might try back off the overclock and see if it helps. Also, the Nvidia App works with Shadows and Mirage...but not with Star Wars Outlaws. But...If I set maximum power in Nvidia Control panel, they all clock properly. I am with you. Up til now, I have not had issues with Nvidia drivers as far as I can remember...and I have been using Nvidia since 2006.

Probably be good you go right back

The "AMD drivers bad" trope is just as common as the "Nvidia evil" one. The internet is a good source of information, but also misinformation. It's anyone's duty to filter out the drivel spreading online these days.
