RX 9000 series GPU Owners Club

These are the kinds of issues which unfortunately go under the radar in benchmarks. :shadedshu:

I was wondering why nobody was reporting crashing with 9070 path-tracing but I guess they were just never exposed to a crashing scenario.
I think Igor's lab noted crashes in cyberpunk with path tracing in their 9070 XT review (but I might be miss remembering that)

Edit: apparently it just "hard" crashed & stopped working after that. So scratch the first part I miss remebered

In any case it's not isolated to just my system like I thought. A quick search on Reddit gave me a few posts discussing it. Someone thinks it has to do with the path tracing library being used not playing nicely with AMD drivers.

You probably are triggering ECC, which would dramatically degrade bandwidth. ECC will prevent crashes, but will do it at the cost of performance.
I turned off FTM, and instead pushed the clockspeed and got 995 GB/s and so far it has not crashed with a black screen. I think I will leave at this as good enough.
I bumped the UV for the GPU to -60mV and it's fine. The Mem temperatures are a bit on the high side compared to the GPU core/Hotspot. The zero fan off makes the Mem temperature worse than with the fans always turned on. GPU Core/Hotspot are usually 49C 55C while the Mem is 74 - 76C

If you have a Gigabyte 9070/XT the GPU may start oozing thermal gel.
Hopefully my Gigabyte 9070 doesn't start leaking thermal gel out although it shouldn't since I have it mounted horizontal.

I don't mean to scare you, but I haven't held Gigabyte in the highest regards in recent years to say the least. News like this only confirm my feelings towards the brand.

this generation for both nvidia and amd seem to be sketchy as hell. im kind of glad there was stock issues, its reconfirmed i am happy with my oc'd 7900 xt that runs ice cold on a giant ass heatsink

You replied to an article about Gigabyte, not Nvidia or AMD. ;)

My XT Steel Legend arrived yesterday. Probably not surprising that it has Hynix RAM. Temps are okay-ish and in line with what others have reported. This is my first ever white cards so I'm curious how it will hold its colour as most white plastic seems to turn yellow over time.

Temps displayed here are after a MHW benchmark. Similar temps after a Steel Nomad run too. It is stable at -70mv, I haven't played around with many of the other settings yet. This is in a secondary system with a Meshlicious case. I took the side panel off temporarily for it to breathe.

I did notice it briefly spike to 379w during a bench run like someone else reported too.

iknow but i was referring/implying that gigabyte issue, plus the power connecter nvidia issue and always having to worry about it when gaming, etc

About problems etc, and in general about the world aroud us (small off top)
There was a guy in Poland that was studying, and he has made a study about tornados if there is more tornados now, than before, cause there is more topics about tornados nowadays.
And he was traveling through Poland to villages etc... and the data He collected said that there is about the same amount of tornados as before, it's that the news are traveling faster, and have wider spread.
Now I think that it could be like with everything We have now, we hear about cases where there is a problem with GPU, CPU or other parts, and I think that most of the time there is not a much problem it's that we are focused on bad things.

About gigabyte cards and thermal compound, beacause it was one guy with problems, I've hanged card and will be using it for some time to see if it's a problem or if it's just a drama :).
Cause yesterday I was looking really closely on my card, and the end of application of this thermal compound is like little bigger blob than the gap between the cold plate and the thing that is coolled, and it could be that only this last bit of blob is falling out.

Meet Bob he is a control blob that is really easy to spot on pcb ^^.

Here is His cousin Steve :). But Steve is a little bit shy,and is hiding.

I must check cause I've got dummy displays I don't know if there is option for 8k xD,
Edit Fun fact :) Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070 XT has 3 threads in back of the card that are connected to the backplate :)
And You can screw what You want :D

Doesn't matter what display you have, mine is 2k but still able to run 4k and 8k Superposition cinematic loops.

For now Steve is emotional constipated but, later might be encouraged by his cousin and come out :D

Welcome to TPU and congratz for the card!!!

You shouldn't take panels off your case, they should be breathing better with them on:) Airflow pressure is higher with the panels on.
Just because 9070XT has hot VRAM no need for dust to get inside your case, what case do you have?

Do you own Baldur's Gate 3 by any chance? This game is my go to game to test memory OC. This game crash frequently when vram is not stable. At first I was daily driving 2800MHz FT, but then started a playthrough of BG3 and the game crashed until I set 2720MHz FT. I had power limit +10% at this time which made vram too hot. Now on a 0% PL, BG3 seam to be ok with 2740MHz FT. 2780MHz FT is crashing the game.

Not yet, I do have it on my Steam wish list. I was waiting for a favorable discount on the game. I gave up and reverted back to stock for both FTM, and Mem clock.

I've never use MoreClockTool, what's the benefits over Adrenalin?

Did i buy a mythical GPU? stock clocks, almost 3400 MHz:

Sadly, I sold this great Gigabyte card and repalced it with ASRock TAICHI OC. Much bigger cooler on the ASRock!!! Doesn't clock as high at stock either, but uses more power?!? I did a mini downgrade!!!

Those temps also are mythical!
Edit: What was the workload used to get those stats?

Mainly for me I prefer less software bloat taking up drive space. All I did was install the drivers then use MoreClockTool for adjusting other settings in Graphics, and Display. You should try it out and see what you think of it.

I really like the idea!! I'll try that! Thank you for the insight!

Edit: that's official! I love this tool!! Just DDU'ed and than install drivers only! The tool work great and the save/load is insanely useful! You made my day @biffzinker !

sounds like something someone named Dave would do, so i guess that all works out in the end, and the world still makes sense

I see, so that's just a separate issue. I don't use discord but maybe some other running process is clashing regarding autosaves.

I noticed that Cyberpunk is more "touchy" having more applications open even sometimes starting the game with MSI AB running for my overlay it can be touchy and if that's the case I open the application when CP is loaded and never have an issue.

In that case streamers would be crashing a lot too, right? Maybe they were, never really checked.

I own the GOG version too, I hope it's not a case of bad bin files regarding this particular issue.
