7900XT - Lower my GPU too constatly be running 500-600rpm

So i just replaced my Merc 310 7900xt with the asrock phantom gaming 7900xt and the card is indead much quieter than the merc when spinning at 1100-1300. allthough im only using it in demanding games. When i had the merc 310 i could setup a profile that had a constant rpm running at 500-600 which was amazing when playing low demanding games and sitting in windows. but i cant seems to make my Asrock do that... so now it keep going between 0 rpm and 1k rpm which i would love to avoid.

Is there any way that i can actually setup my card to constantly run my 7900xt at 500-600rpm all the time???

the minimum is 20% at 1k rpm and i cant change that with custom curve.

i have tried dowloading more power tool but cant use it for 7900XT

Disable zero RPM in the AMD software under: Performance->Tuning->Fan Tuning.

If i do that it just keep running at 1k rpm... would love too have lower rpm in leasser demanding games and when doing office work

My XFX 7900 XT is the same way. Can only go so low with the fan speed. But nice to see it idle in the 30s instead of 45c with a hot spot around 50c with quiet mode enabled.

The reason for me too do it is so i can have my fan running at low speed all the time instead of it switching zero apm on/off all the time.. quite annoying.

0% or 1100 rpm are my choices. So the profile I run manually looks like this.

You could into AMD software and set the fan curve at one static line. Those dots in the pic above are control points.

But i cant set it under 20%

Also why i try too force the rpm speed under zero in afterburner it just ignore it and set the limit too 20% again

Nope, that's what we get. There's no way to alter what is written to the bios.

But speaking of that, does your card have a dual bios? Maybe that could change the fan curve. I am still using the stock position.

NVM, I flipped the switch real quick. Fan curve unchanged.

i think its lousy and lazy .... for example in WOW i am playing with temperature that makes zero apm start and stop every 3-4 min. o i can take that or have my fac spinning all the time. Should be an easy fix since i have it on my other 7900xt.... were it was running 500-600 all the time.... perfect temp. just let us set the damm curve by ourself. thats the whole point of advance option

Could only hope for a bios update from the manufacturer, but maybe it's because it's not yours. You physically own it when it's sitting on the shelf. The firmware and software that control the card, we do not own. The reserve all rights and choose to block modifications beyond what is set.

So people water cool and shunt mod instead. No more fan curve. Yay.

Do you know if Nvidia is diffrent in this aspect or the same??

Yes I believe NVidia cards are similar in this aspect. I have a 650 ti installed, it's lowest is 25% according to afterburner. (Installed for physx)

My 4070 Super, I would have to toss in to confirm, but I believe it also has like a 25% minimum duty cycle. Or that's just where afterburner bottoms out, I don't know. I can also check with NV Inspector, but again the card isn't installed.

Shown in pic you can see my old 7900XT running with 500rpm.. with exact same configuration... so odd.. but maybe a bug in the adrenaline software.. allthough i ran with it for several driver updates

You have set the fan power to MAX at 40%. That should be 100% max.

+15 power -

Not sure why that is relatet to anything ?? But i set it too - 10 to draw less power which means less heat and less noise
Exactly. Cause there isn't a way to run the fans the way you want around the particular type of usage. It won't matter how many times we go around it.

The stock fan curve is fine. 0% is as silent as it gets.

As an alternative, maybe put a spot fan over the fan intakes to push a little air through and keep the card from revving up? Maybe that could help??

That was my point showing you the picture... thats it is possible since i been running my merc 210 7900XT with 500rpm for over a year in a idle profile i made.

But yeah will probably switch them around and sell my phantom gaming and replace it with the merc again. Was just hoping there was a workaround.. but thanks anyway for your help O/\▲o

I looked at the picture and tried to apply the same settings. Fan speed dropped to 0 and the slider didn't do anything because the temp was low enough. I wanted to replicate this, but the issue is a personal thing for you. So I could leave the fan profile stock, my PSU fan is louder most of the time. :twitch:

So out of curiousity... do you think its a bug in the hardware or software... that made my merc 310 run with 500 rpm constantly??

It's a XFX Merc 310 'feature'.

thansk for clarification... guess ill try and find cards with that feature.
Good luck. To my knowledge, it wasn't advertised on the Merc 310.
"Zero RPM" became the feature to market. -and that's driver-integral now, AFAIK

I do feel ya, though.
Just because a GPU's HSF can passively cool the GPU and VRAM at idle, doesn't mean the VRMs or caps aren't sitting in the upper-range of their thermal design tolerances.

Maybe next step is to get a better case to isolate noise... Right now i have the fratal north case with glass panel... Is there alot of different in cases for more noise canceling?!
