OFFICIAL Game Soundtracks You Love

Fuck, couldn't find this thread as I was already shedding tears.

So calm and so beautiful. Posted this before and I will post in the future, but how the hell there can even exist something this soothing and beautiful?

Fuck, back to FF X-2 HD AP farming before I get my tear channels dried by just this feeling. :')

Mirror's Edge was the modern gaming entry in my life. It was the first game I installed when I first got my own gaming PC: Athlon II 240, 4GB DDR2-800 and a glorious XFX HD4350 512MB. All of it connected through S-Video (and aux for audio) to my parents' living room TV while I still didn't have a desk and monitor.
And still ME was unlike anything I've ever seen possible, it rocked my world.

I like the background music in Starfield whilst exploring planets. It's relaxing after a busy day at work! :)

How is the game itself? I've heard it's empty, but honestly... What else is space supposed to be like? :D

I'm especially interested in the exploration element. As long as that's nice and relaxing, and full of space mysteries and whatnot, I might jump on it when I finish Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. :)

I have a bittersweet relationship with this particular track. The reason for that is because I bought this game on release and when I first started it, I sat there on the title screen for some minutes just listening to it. I love the track itself, and due to the history of the series, I was anticipating something grand and magical... and then the rest of the game just didn't live up to that.

I do like Final Fantasy X-2 for what it is; it's a fun side story that lets us see how Yuna and the world changed after the events of Final Fantasy X, but it also wasn't what I was thinking it would be. So whenever I hear that track, it reminds me of that.

If you ask from me for a single underrated game, I'll say ME Catalyst before you even finish that sentence.

I fucking love that game, easily on my top-10 games ever and I've been a gamer for 30+ years. :toast:

Have you 100%'d it?

I USED to hate X-2, now I love it. Going from teen to adult does sometimes miracles, even in game taste. :D

Talking about emotive music in games, for me it's :

It's made by Coeur de Pirate a well known singer here, who usually do this king of thing (in duo) :

And another classic for the road :

LiS BtS menu theme works surprisingly well too for me. No matter the episode (a slight change in every of them), but maybe ep2 is my favourite

No, I haven't. I don't usually do that with games, although I want to complete it more than I originally did. I've only ever really played through it twice and both times were back in the 2000s (once at launch, and another later in the decade), so it's been a while since I played that one.

I was intending to replay it after replaying Final Fantasy X a couple of years ago, but I didn't want to start it before finishing X. I "finished" it but was still in the end game... and then I dropped it before I finished that.

I noticed that almost every guy I knew back then mostly seemed to hate it, but a couple of friends (one in particular) and I didn't. Something I remember around the time it released was going over to her house and the "friendly teasing" between her and her brother about how Final Fantasy X-2 was terrible compared to the original, and he started playing up the upcoming Final Fantasy XII like "it's going to be way better than that one". Ah, the things that were priorities when you are young. It was all in good fun though because even we thought Final Fantasy X was better, but the difference was we didn't dislike X-2 as much.

So I never hated it, but I did dislike that it wasn't on the same grand and epic level as the rest. For example, Final Fantasy X already got rid of the world map, but I would have accepted that as a one off given its whole pilgrimage thing. With Final Fantasy X-2, obtaining summons was gone (you only fight dark versions), the amount of party members was much smaller, and the story and villain felt far too inconsequential. Of course, it made sense from the perspective of the lore that it wasn't, but still, it meant it was a huge change in mood and it no longer carried that grand or epic scale feeling of the previous entries. The gameplay was never one of the bad things though, and I remember even people who disliked the game acknowledging that it was good. It was like Square found something special with turn based battles... only to completely abandon it after doing so!? With the low risk story and goofy villains, it made the game feel like a "carnival of end game content" all the way through and I wasn't too fond of that. But I do draw the line (where the series changed too much for me to enjoy) after X-2 and not before it.

Even this day feels weird that it doesn't have the world map, yet there's still ton of things to do.

There's few tracks on X-2 OST which are just incredible. This (and Disquiet, the Via Infinito music) is my favourite

edit: I like X-2 so much that I just had to get an original release for PS2, I had it (and X) as platinum before but gave them to my friend as I prefer originals. Maybe later I'll play it on PS2, after I'm done with this PS3 HD version.

This was always my favorite music track from Final Fantasy X or X-2.

Gotta love its comfiness. You seem to like the comfy tracks from FF titles just like my friend, I'm more in the boss theme territory, been since I was a kid.

Challenge from X is also dope:

Haha, I don't know if "comfy" is the word that comes to mind with any of the scenes that music plays in. I get the impression you may have meant "moody" or "emotional" more than "energized and exciting" though?

Final Fantasy X might have the best balance of regular and boss battle music. (IV is another strong contender where both battle themes are very good). I think IX has the best regular battle music in the series, but it's boss battle music isn't. I wouldn't change it because there's nothing particularly wrong with it as it matches the game well, but VIII and X do have more energized and exciting boss battle tracks. The one is X is almost a little foreboding and ominous in a way, whereas VIII is just pure energy.

Edit: While on the subject, are remakes of OSTs on topic? I listen to a lot of remake music for Final Fantasy IX, X, and VIII especially, and I came across a channel a few years ago that has a lot of remakes for those entries (and VII) in particular.

Here's Final Fantasy VIII's boss battle.

And here's the battle segments when playing as Laguna.

So much of the battle music in VIII is just energy haha.

And while not a battle theme, this was always one of my favorites tracks in VIII.

Of course, my favorites would be the obligatory ones! From IX.

Yeah, okay... maybe I do have a type of music?

I can definitely appreciate some energized music at times though. I'm hoping to see the above creator remake Assault of the Silver Dragons one day, for example.

Don't forget the best boss theme from IV ;)

From VIII, The Extreme is without a doubt my favourite. I have always that feeling that I can fuck up that last battle even though it's not that hard in overall.

edit: should also go through the thread entirely, made a playlist for game OSTs so I can save the best gems there.

Overall? I have over 500+ hrs on it now. Cant' bring myself to gamble on anything else out there until maybe HL3 comes out mid year.
But basically you choose your own adventure in this game with RPG elements. The perk tree is unlike anything else I've had before & it brings its own set of challenges. The space combat is something else, especially when more than 1 ship is attacking you, even more challenging in first person point of view. Sometimes you have to dig down a bit into initial quest lines with extra quests offered, its then the game shows its gems & different scenarios.
Don't pay attention to threads on steam about it from knockers & haters, there are bot accounts spilling rubbish out there. I've noticed a trend with 0 experience accounts on there rubbishing the game something bad. But then again, there are also positive & constructive threads for the game as well. Suppose its like that for many games though on steam, not that I waste a lot of time on there but its something you notice.

I have one fond memory playing Mirrors edge, I was set to go out in a few hours and I was playing it and as I was about to stop playing so I can get ready to go out. I stood up and had to rush to the toilet and ended up throwing up, first time getting motion sickness playing a game.
The theme song has always been one of my favourites from the franchise.
Catalyst had a nice one but I don't recall hearing it at the end of the game.

The proper version

Snake eaterrrrr
Something to look forward for those that are interested in the MGS3 remake

So I randomly came across this one.

Having an AVGN marathon once again and watching Toxic Crusaders episode at the moment, this theme song is dope!
