Just wondering why posts here that have multiple photos attached can't have them in a gallery structure, so that clicking on any of them loads up a page section insert (or whatever it is called) that has back & forward arrows so you can flip through all of them, instead of having to hit the backspace key, return to the post, and have to click on the next photo ???

I have seen this feature on other boards that use similar site software, so that's why I'm asking.....

If it's a limitation of the site software/setup or something to do with the servers and/or ISP's that is understandable :)

By posts you mean front page articles even inside the forum comments side?

I've had that question.

This is due to the fact that the forum software is very different from the front page news article and review side of the site, which is completely different software. The forum software is linked to the main site, but the functionality doesn't translate over.

I was mainly referring to the headlines pages and the recent discussion sections

Gotcha, thanks for the info :)

Better it load a full screen or larger image that only requires a single click to exit than most other alternatives.

I used to visit a site solely for the expertly photographed and retouched photos that were again expertly converted and compressed for web use. Clicking opened them full screen with easily targetable regionally triggered proceeding overlay that never intruded, felt more than seen. Always instant loading well optimized web design. Then one day photos started opening in a clunky overlay with non-collapsible gallery and ads hard coded to right half of screen. No photo zoom whatsoever.

Weird. I was just about to post a thread asking about this.........

I can't click into, say, a news thread, and look at all the pictures without hitting 'back' on the browser to see the next image?? That's pretty clumsy these days.

@bonehead123 - My forum runs Xenforo too and we just simply hit an arrow to scroll through any pictures in a post like you said (see image). I don't believe we have any plugins... that's just native Xenforo. Even when our backend (Wordpress) creates an article on the front page, then a thread with multiple images (upon article publication), you can scroll through them.

THIS is EXACTLY what I was asking about...

IMHO, it is just so much faster & more convenient to do it this way instead of the back & forth shuffle :D

No doubt.

Yeah, no clue why they don't do it here. I'm not sure what TPU's backend is and if it creates the forum thread upon publishing on the blog, or if it's a manual process. If it's a manual process to create the forum thread, I'd have no idea why it's not working. If it's automatic, it feels like a function of the backend here not playing nice with Xenforo as the functionality is there/works with WP->Xenforo.

EDIT: It doesn't even work (arrows to scroll) if it's manually added post and images....at least not with thumbnails....... this is a configuration issue if I had to guess.

EDIT2: Same with full images.

You're using Wordpress. TPU isn't. So the linking plugin doesn't work the same. While I agree it's slightly cumbersome, it's a minor annoyance, at least to me.

Well aware...and said as much already.

I continued on testing and, if you look above your post (post 8), I showed where even MANUALLY entering the pictures in a thread and post NOT created by their backend, there isn't any function to move from pic to pic without backing out and jumping back in. So, you may be right with blog->forum thread creation (if their backend does it), but even when you create a post and add pictures manually, that functionality is still not available. ;)

The functionality is in Xenforo and just not being used.... no idea if it would work through TPU's backend if it was actually enabled on the Xenforo/forum side, however.

I think I remember someone saying "and we want people to visit the front page" or something to that effect.

It works in the blog/articles, yep! But appears to not be enabled in the forums under any condition.

Was super confused as to why it wasn't working for you, but then realized I was using mobile.

Ha! Yep.. works there for me too. Just a desktop thing.

No big deal. :)

That was understood. I've taken the liberty of looking at couple of the image catalogs for a few front page articles. The way they're being used is in a way Xenforo does not expect and is not compatible with(AFAICT). So while the functionality may be there, it's not linking to front page articles in the same way the WordPress image cats link into Xenforo. Could be wrong, but that is the way it looks from the outside looking at how each page with an image slider loads and is compiled.

With mobile being able to slide images, this kind of half confirms this and the mobile version of TPU's page seem to be using a separate software package and library from the desktop version of TPU's pages. Again, might be wrong, but this is how it looks from the outside. Only W1z knows for sure, unless one of the other admins help with that kind of site work.

Speaking of photos, I'm wondering if there could be a low bandwidth version of the forum for UK users.

Many times I click on a thread that has a high-res photo in it which essentially freezes my connection, so I have to quit and reload the forum (and remember to avoid that same thread for a while).

Right. I get that (the why) in those threads. I also wonder if the thread simply follows the xenforo rules (as that functionality isn't enabled in desktop forum) and it's not a plug-in.

But forget about the thread being created from the blog. At this point, I'm just wondering if w1z can enable in posts. It's like that everywhere else (mobile, blog), why not the forum too?

Again, a minor inconvenience, I know... just really found it weird as I was going to ask about it and ran across this thread, lol.
