Okay but like.... when you consider an Astral 5090 goes for ~$3k-3.2k, $6.7k isn't HORRENDOUS for a literally gold plated version... double the price for gold plated is actually not bad in terms of the increase.




In terms of the cost, though... yeesh, I spent less on my entire setup.

It's a bit like saying that a perpetual movement watch shouldn't be that expensive because it's accurate and less convienent than a quartz watch. It's not about the features, it's about the exclusivity. Computer gear has loooong stopped being a rational purchase, a huge bunch of the market became "I'll buy it because I can, and it looks fun". Computers are like cars.

I have nothing against eccentric embellishments, but I feel there should be a certain order to how things are done, in a professional manner of course.

Therefore a second connector should be present, not only would it represent higher quality & more reliability but also status, because the "peasants", even though they might pay more than $3500 for a regular 5090, they only get a single connector, which pretty much represents a cheap, disposable, unreliable product -> like a turd wrapped in gold foil.

I can totally see them do two connectors on it and then just wire one of them to the GPU. And then they'll add monitoring so you can doubly confirm the one connector is working. Seems like a perfect match with the overall Blackwell design.

Actually ASUS does. PC gaming has not been about gaming and has been about lifestyle branding since the early 2000s. ASUS was one of the first ones out there with stuff like AI (ASUS Intelligence at the time) life(style) branding on their products even back in the socket 939 days. ROG was their innovation and is strictly a lifestyle brand. If you are into PC gaming you aren't really into gaming, you're into a lifestyle branding asthetic entirely and the biggest brand fluffer out there that makes teen girls on tiktok look sane. Unless of course you are talking about the 90s and earlier. But if you started later? Yeah totally a brand fluffer.
