The TPU UK Clubhouse

Encountered my first time waster on FB marketplace trying to sell my laptop. Not impressed at all, back to eBay I go for round 2.
Anyway anyone enjoying the sun?

It happens pretty often.
Enjoying the sun indeed, working outside as much as my laptop allows it!

Yeah pretty much got ghosted, I message the dude an hour before the "agreed" meeting time, waited over 40 minutes and never turned up.
I went back home and tried to send a message that the deal is off and it failed to send.

I actually need a stronger laptop then my current one but your one is waaaaaaay too overbuilt for my needs.

my requirements are less of an full on gaming laptop and more of a lighter/more portable multimedia laptop with enough grunt for casual/light gaming.

Not too shabby, but if you want more options.

The British Rail part brings the memories of good old times when I've worked as a contractor for Network Rail :banghead: Was the only foreigner at the depo, and 90% of the time I was as confused as the guy from the video.

That was brilliant! :toast: What's funnier is I know a guy like that. He is the master of the unfortunate and ill-timed phrase!

Speaking about the unfortunate and ill-timed phrase. I knew a guy from Poland, he was trying to say "What do you mean you can't?" instead he said to big and angry cockney "What do you mean you c**t" After a short rest at the nearest hospital he moved to France soon after :D

FB marketplace is full of them, unfortunately.

Of course it was sunny when I was at work. Now it's weekend, and the weather is shit again. So typical. :(

i left the UK in March this year, I was there for 6 months, so if I come back in July, can I stay 4 months before I go home? or will they not let me do that? my visa lasts 6 months as a visitor visa, but I can't find any set rules about how long I have to wait before I come back? anyone know?

No idea, but I'd guess it's a 6 month allowance in a year. So you'd not be able to come back until March 2026? I know the Canadian system is that way, although there's not guarantee you're actually allowed to keep doing it. It's at the discretion of immigration control.

You might (let me repeat might) have a problem check link below:

Speaking from experience they were pretty lenient (I lived in UK from 2006 until 2018) I’ve heard things changed after the Brexit.

Why do I keep hearing Ibiza pronounced as ai-bee-fa? There's no damn F in the word. It's so annoying! :banghead:

Not to mention, it's only English that pronounces i as ai, and Ibiza is not an English word, so I assume the correct pronunciation is closer to ee-bee-za. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: It's equally annoying to hear Rammstein pronounced as ram-stai-n. It's rahm-shtai-n.

There are a lot of words out there that probably have some weird pronunciation that doesn't match how the word is spelt out to be fair.

Anyway had one muppet on ebay trying to completely low ball me on my laptop, sent him a mildly angry message in response.
I know I shouldn't react but it felt insulting my intelligence on tech and the current market rate.

I've seen an increasing number of people who only buy hardware to pass it on for a profit lately. They are purposefully hunting for idiots, not expecting you to know anything about the hardware you're selling.

It seems most people want something for nothing ........... or next to nothing and if they can't get it they go down the scam route, the used market everywhere seems to have taken a nose dive for sellers in the last few years.

Ive also come across sellers who will sell something that is NIB for what im guessing is the price that they paid it for.

In my case, I was shopping for a bicycle helmet. Seller had one NIB/unused i.e bought, tried on once and didnt like it and forgot to or couldnt send it back. I assume he was trying to get back all his money as he was selling it at full RRP. I made him multiple offers and he wouldnt even knock £5 or £10 off his asking price.

I couldnt understand why he wouldnt let it go because I messaged him and sent him pictures of prices from the main bike retailers of the helmet he was trying to sell and they were all priced the same or just below. I cant remember if he ever responded to my messages.

Well. I can be a vindictive little bitch at times... I found the helmet on sale at a major bike retailer and the website also gave me 10% off as a new customer. So I bought the helmet for 30-40% off RRP. Screenshotted the invoice and sent it to him. Cant remember if the seller responded. I didnt care. But my point to him was he was trying to sell it at full RRP when it could be had for either the same price or less at some of the big bike retailers - who in their right mind would want to buy from him for the same money with 0 returns or warranty for full RRP?

Anyway. The new helmet lasted less than a month. I took a tumble whilst out on the bike. Hit the concrete and the foam inside the helmet cracked so it was no use anymore.

So you could say It was karma. I was a dick to this seller and karma came for me.

This was a very very long time ago however. Must have been in my mid/late 20's with a poor attitude and just generally angry at everyone.

The older you get. The less of a shit you give about things, what other people do and their business unless youre directly affected by it.

I mean I partially blame scalpers and the stupid "side hustle" mindset now to be honest.
Oh let's buy something that could be valuable, get a load of them so there is none left and then sell it for profit.
Completely destroyed collecting anything or even buying something for actual use.
