5 years goes pretty quick these days so def 10 minimum from me. Gotta earn your stripes somehow.

I honestly think 15/20 years is stretching it.

I don't really care and there are people that have been here way longer than me so I don't mind if 5 years badge goes away.

Added poll

I've got question, are there any other badges or only Long service?, and what about posts count, cause I don't think that I deserve Long Service badge (5 years) because of my low posts count.
Just because I'm here don't mean I'm Serving the TPU properly :).

Same. Can I vote away the badges altogether? It just takes up a line in the post and reduces page density. We already have the join date and message count in every single post so the badge is utterly redundant info. I call that "pointless clutter", but that's just my opinion.

If there's a strong demand for the badges, can it at least be moved so that it doesn't add a row of wasted space to every post/comment including the badge?

Or give the user a choice to toggle on or off.

choice/toggle would be cool if poss.
Or move into/onto avatar?
Voted. And changed my mind twice lol .

Or just make different colored ones and leave them in this range 5-10-15-20 and so on.

my vote is for 10, seems like a reasonable amount of time :)

Added two additional options, you may change your vote

Seconded. Move it into or under the avatar picture. Like a mini banner

:EDIT:

Also. @W1zzard you may also want to think about adding a minimum post-count to unlock a 'long service' badge. Ive seen accounts with between 200-1k posts and they still have 10 year service badges lmao. Lurkers shouldnt get a long service badge. Maybe a long lurker badge but not long service.

If you want the badge to mean something. Then it has to be earned. Just my $

Perhaps it could be moved right beneath the System Specs link?

BTW, funny how most of those advocating for 10+ years already have that kind of "tenure"... :D

EDIT: Of course, someone (Hugis) thought of that before me... :S

move the five year badge to user info. display 10, 15 years … if you remove the badges, remove the date joined… because they really “mean” the same thing…

+1 for long lurker badge. That would be nice. A very tiny nudge to posting more

I think you get a title at x number of posts.

I feel like the badges are a weird artifact of the old internet forum culture, same with the stars. It’s not like they are doing anything useful, but keeping them is fine, it adds character to the forum. Maybe have a minimum post requirement, yeah. As for positioning, if possible, maybe it makes sense for it to replace the aforementioned stars when reached. This way, it’s still visible, but isn’t messing with the post body. It’s only fair since the most “point value” trophy star is already a tenure one.

make the badges display ever year over the threshold

There should be a "high quality poster" or something

@Easy Rhino
That’s an impossible suggestion. Who is going to be the arbiter of that one? And it would just lead to unnecessary animosity and accusations of favoritism.

I was going to say the lurker badge was for me but you clearly got me beat.

I'm also a fan of moving them onto the user info portion of a post. They'd probably have to be re-designed/shrunk to not look clunky over there.

There's also a small issue in the color scheme not fitting very well with the dark theme that I'd guess most of us now use.

As for the time frame, 10 years just seems like a nice round number to have as the cutoff. But I also don't have any issue with the current implementation.

I will be arbiter. You get an "EasyRhino Approved" badge.
