Evening all. I'm on the lookout for a new monitor in the £200-£300 range that can give some better frame rates than the current offering. HDR and some version of frame sync would be nice, and new to me, so would be a bonus. 2560×1440 and 27" is around the perfect size, but I could go to 32" if it's worth it, plus that would annoy the missus :). There's a couple of used Samsung G7's local to me I could have a look at, should I bother or is there a hidden gem I've not stumbled upon?

Hi,
I've entered your criterias in a big French reseller, and here the following results.
That said, I haven't checked price and availability in the UK.

Asus VG 27 AQ (and the AQ 3A version)
LG UltraGear 27GS75 (and the versions -B / N-B)

You'll get 2560x1440 27", 165 / 180 Hz, G-Sync / Freesync, HDR10 / 400

In 2016-2017, I got my first 1440p IPS high refresh rate panel, wrapped in 32". It was great for gaming and media, but right from the start, it didn’t feel right for work, browsing or any text-heavy tasks. This was largely due to the the panels roomy pixel density. At this resolution, 32" drops some of that crispier sharpness in text, objects, UI elements, etc., something I had overlooked at the time of purchase and quickly got pushed out of my comfort zone. I should have compared both sizes (32" vs 27") in-person before pulling the trigger. I ended up swapping to 27" and instantly everything clicked!

... just putting that out there if it matters to you. In short, for gaming/media 32" works great. If you've got general productivity in mind, I'd encourage sticking to the pixel snug 27" sweet spot.

2 options: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/L8bRsY,mgWJ7P/

Both support HDR and frame sync (incl. Gsync compability). Just keep in mind, I wouldn't expect amazing results with HDR using IPS, thats the more pricey OLED territory. Out of the two, the Dell monitor sits on the better HDR 600 tier experience and the ASUS panel stretches the refresh rate to 180hz. Neither feature will make a significantly noticeable difference at this level but overall these are great high refresh rate gaming displays.

Cheers guys, food for thought.

I am on a 4K since 2018.

At this resolution, 4K is just too demanding on the graphics engine and perhaps not the best idea if we're GPU-limited (op's specs: 5060 TI 16GB). I was close to pulling the trigger on 4K when i picked up my 2080 TI... glad i didn't! No complaints - 1440p is still an absolute blast, striking a smart balance for performance and image quality.

I don't think so. You can play at 4K just fine with an Radeon RX 7800 XT, for instance, just touch the settings accrodingly to adjust the desired framerate.
1440p is a no go, because it means low-quality, low pixels per inch on so large screens.

So in your view, the 5060 Ti 16GB is a good fit for 4K and something we should be recommending to the OP who is currently leaning towards 1440p? Just take a moment to really think about that before responding. Keep in mind theres no specific game context here, we are left to assume a typical mix of both lightweight and the more demanding AAA games... not forgetting the relentless tougher demands from next generation of games.

1440p at 27" (which was recommended to the op) might not be surgical grade sharp like 4K but calling it "low-quality" is blasphemy, the type of crime that gets you banished from the church of reasonable display choices. Also, saying "1440p is a no go" makes it sound like anything below 4K belongs in the bin (?)

I have a razor sharp eagle-like vision and even 4K at 27-inch is not optimal for me. I lean towards 8K or 16K.

surgical grade sharp
XD!

but calling it "low-quality" is blasphemy

He's just messing with you, I'd assume so, XD!

razor sharp eagle-like vision
Now that's rare, the result of following the inner path, no doubt ;)

I lean towards 8K or 16K.
Not even 9090 can handle that, especially with RT (PT) maxed out and all that (far-right graphical options).

8K will be one of the main selling points of the PS7 era.
PS6 will (sorta) be able to handle 8K, with the help of PSSR (Ultra Performance mode, SMH)

The PS9 era could be a 16K one.

How about an UltraWide?

Acer Predator X39

£200-£300 range
Should've read that first, my bad

So X39 is out (of the suggestions, that is) then
