Why's that?
IMO some GPUs are not cooling properly in vertical position because of heat pipes, while PSU fan not gonna be that efficient in extracting hot air in out of the case.
You see in normal case position hot air will raise to the PSU because of the airflow and convection, therefore PSU will warm up faster and start the fan more often extracting hot air out.

This is a strong argument, while most vendors do their maximum to ensure their product will work at their best in every position, it's no impossible that some product will perform better in a specific position.

I always say as a joke "If you rely on your PSU as a cooling solution, you're doom". I've always seen it the other way around => what can I do to not cook my PSU with hot air.

You see in normal case position hot air will raise to the PSU
Most case nowadays have their PSU at the bottom tho. The Torrent is more of an exception in that regard.

This is something I'll do everything to avoid. I don't want it the become warmer, I want it to stay cool. Convection get overridden by airflow, most of the time, you don't have to worry about convection in an active cooling system. It's another story in a passive cooling system tho.

I basically 3 reasons to keep it sideways. First one is that I believe that fan work better horizontally vs fighting gravity in an upward orientation. Second one is that air don't have to take a tight turn, it have a straight access to the intake. More air enter more easily. The last one and the strongest one, AIO is very noisy when the case is standing compared to when sideways. I can also hear bubbling when standing, which annoy me a lot. Torrent isn't exactly the greatest case for AIO and the position it have in it is far from optimal.

I made a Steel Nomad stress test in each position to see which position worked best and sideways won by a wide margin. I left a lot of time between each run and ambient temperature stayed the same at 20C in both tests.

Great test :D
I like laying pc, cause of less stress on pcie slot from gpu :D.

Have You watched Steve? He has nice video how aio works and how it should be mounted :D. Even Arctic website is showing his video.

Hi there,

I had a question for 9070XT owners. Why does my 9070xt VRAM show as:

16384MB in GPU-Z

16304MB in AMD Adrenaline / CPU-Z

15732MB in DXDIAG & display driver settings

15.5GB in Task manager.
The latter is the most concerning, I've never seen a 16GB card register is 15.5GB

r/AMDHelp - Mixed Vram values
Is this just a windows error if GPUZ/CPUZ and Adrenaline are recognizing it?

Mine says the same

Have You watched Steve?
I did back in the days when it went live. I forgot about it since then, I'll rewatch it, I remember it was quite interesting!

16384MB in GPU-Z
This is the total physical amount since our cards have 8 chips of 2048MB = 16384MB.

The rest of the numbers are harder to explain. I could be wrong, so take it with a grain of salt. I believe the GPU itself reserve a certain amount of it's VRAM so it can run properly, the same way Windows reserve a certain amount of your DRAM to ensure it won't starve, because when OS's starve, PC behave oddly and crash. I also believe Windows itself reverse a small amout of VRAM so it can display the dektop properly. So smaller numbers would be a rough estimation of the usable amount of VRAM after reserved amounts are accounted for. The numbers differ from one program to another because each program have it's own way to calculate available amount of VRAM. I would not be surprise to learn that only the GPU itself know the real number.

I was doing some small test, just to get the same results like with stock gpu settings, and with -40mV, 90% powerlimit, 2700 MHz on vram it is a little bit better than stock.
SteelNomad Stock 7367, with some tweaks 7415.

I've added the runs in window to see how the temperatures are.
This is stock. (unfortunately I forgot to uncheck max power on gpuz)

And this is not stock.

Hey @AVATARAT would you be willing to test that 9070XT in dx10? :D So far we've checked dx7-9.0c performance.

As previously, maxed out 4K on a stock card, including feature tests, please:

@QuietBob
I thought I would hook up and run it too but I don't have 4k monitor ;(

You can set 4k, you just need to enable Virtual Super Resolutions.

Just be careful about the refresh rate supported by your monitor for that resolution.

Hmm maybe I will test it on another system, cause for now I don't have adrenaline installed :), but thanks for idea :D

@AVATARAT Thanks for testing, here's my card for comparison :)

These game tests are quite heavy, both dropped to about 65 fps on occasion.

I see you're on a UW 1440p monitor, maybe you could test 2560x1440?

Custom Resolution Utility can also help, I've used it before, it's a little tricky to remove when you set a resolution but it works.

For now 2560x1440.
Much less of a difference in game tests in this resolution, so we're getting CPU bottlenecked. And it's interesting to see that the 5800X3D has a sizeable advantage over the 5700X in the first CPU test:

I found something interesting yesterday.
In the game The First Descendant there is in-game frame generation.
Resolution 3840x1620 Native ~87 FPS, in-game Frame Generation ~155 FPS, if I include AFMF ~250 FPS.
Yes, this doesn't work well and AFMF adds ghosting, but... it adds stacks up and adds a second FG frame :D

Maybe You've got losseless scaling so maybe add 3rd layer of fg :P

New Adrenalin 25.6.1 dropped this morning,..

Edit: my RX 9070 XT sensors are not showing in HWiNFO with this 25.6.1 upgrade. Looks like I'm rolling back to 25.5.2,..

Again beta drivers. Why there is always for launch lately some problems.

I think the main reason is AMD GPU VBIOS developers being lazy,.. they expect everyone to beta test, report issues for them.
