HI, My question is, is it still worth it to upgrade to a RX 6900 XT int 2025.The pc is coming from a GTX1080.
So the performance boost is there, but currently the 7090 is 200 euros more than a the RX 6900Xt i could get.
The resolution the games are played on is 1440p.

Are you saying a 7900GRE or a 7900XT?

Depends on the rest of the machine. Too old and its not worth it.

I'm happy with my radeon 7800xt in 1440p.

6900XT, 7800Xt, 9070XT. The purchase of such graphic card all matters on the price in your region.

In my point of view I would wait for a price drop for radeon 9070. As the topic poster mentioned euros. I also assume only a purchase of new product and not a second hand deal.

You literally said that the 7090..... did you mean 7900 or 9070??

Worth the upgrade for the right price. The RX 9070 (Non XT) is 18% faster over the RX 6900 XT. If you pay 18% less from buying a new RX 9070 or RTX 5070, I would consider it a good move.

7900XT matches the RX 9070 perf, just without FSR 4 support.

Yeah, as others have said it just depends how much more a 7800XT/7900XT/9070/5070 is in your region.

You've waited this long the 1080 is almost a decade old at this point I would honestly wait till RDNA4 is in your price range or till Nvidia offers better cards in your price range.

There are some clear downsides of buying 6900XT but that will mostly come down to the settings you want to use and your expectations in 2025 the fact that you are using a 1080 means you likely are ok with FSR 2/3

This is the engine most games are using going forward...

I would only do it if it was so cheap I couldn't pass it up and it was being sourced from a seller I trust and your expectations of how it performs in 2025 games isn't too high.

Both, 6900 is secondhand card, but it has a warrenty untill end of this year and the 9070 would be new ofc or a good secondhand deal if possible haha.

It's kinda hard to say without knowing what prices are like in your area (incl. availability). Once we get a feel for that, we can check out other options and their prices to see which one makes the most sense.

Where are you based?

Are you looking at a used 6900 XT vs something new?

Budget?

EDIT: Just checked your specs - you have a 3080 already? Or is the upgrade for another system? If another, what are you upgrading from?

6900XT is around 375 and 9070 is atleast 720

This is the pc of my wife.

375 for a used 6900 XT is enticing. The concern with used cards is the possibility of mining use, instability due to poorly optimised overclocking/cooling or even the usual improper care. As long as you're going into a transaction with some credible level of buyer protection, otherwise i'd avoid it.

From what I understand your budget is flexible to ~$720 with no strings attached. If thats correct, i'd prefer the 9070 for its 20% mark-up in performance, a good fair bit more efficient, It offers vastly superior ray tracing performance which makes it a more credible choice for newer releases that rely on baked in RT/RT-like techniques, FSR 4 support and more importantly a brand spanking new GPU with its warranty intact.

If $720 feels like a stretch, check to see how much the 7800 XT or 7900 GRE (if available) are going for? Both trade blows with the 6900XT - the GRE coming out ahead by a few points (based on averages) https://tpucdn.com/review/asrock-ra...-oc/images/relative-performance-2560-1440.png

Is average price here for a 6900, the 7800XT is 400-450 range.
And notice its in Euro's ;)

Hmm 2020 when these came out, depending on where you are buying from you might get stuck with it if it fails suddenly(no buyer protection), also consider pcb repair shops near by or northridgefix before you just get it. Keep in mind sometimes warranties aren't transferrable from 1 person to the next and companies want to see proof of purchase or a registration of product before they grant repairs...

Consider if where you are getting the card from has buyer protection. Dont just buy stuff off facebook marketplace.

The main downside of 6900 XT is how much power it consumes, and its ridiculous power spikes. I'd just say no to the whole idea and buy a 4070. Sure, it's weaker but at least there's no PSU concern going on.

Or, if you really insist on AMD, 9070. RDNA3 downwards is a waste of money, full stop.

oops i meant €

7800 XT ~€450 brand new? If yes, pull the trigger. If no, how much is it going for new?

Which country are you in?

thats far too much.

My radeon 7800xt has a new purchase price of 485€. paid listening price. that means the card should be cheaper, most likely 450€, when you are patient and have time to search, fresh out of the box.

I will also most likely sell soon my graphic card as the 2 year fake warranty runs out in november.

why did i suspect such a moon price when reading the topic.

Netherlands. Today I saw a new 7800xt for 450 from red devil. And a second hand 16 month old asus tuf is also 450 .

Will also check what the 9060 xt will do against the 7800xt.
