Hello, how you guys doing.
Im in a dire need of a replacement for my aging Dell XPS. Did a little bit of research and managed to put together an initial list. Dont really know much about this pc build world so I would appreciate any comment on the parts. Im from Mexico and the availability and pricing are both rough here. This are all parts from Amazon that can be ordered right away.
I have a budget of $1,500 but can up it a little bit. This list counts for a total of $1,538.
Wanna be able to play games at 1440p with decent fps. Single player games like moddded Skyrim, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, Red Dead Redemption 2 and the upcoming GTA VI.

CPU Intel i5 14400 $183
COOLER
Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE $19
MOBO
AsRock B760m Pro Rs White DDR5 $154
RAM
Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 32 Gb Kit (2x16) 5200Mhz CL40 $105
SSD
Western Digital NVME M2 SN350 1 Tb $61
HDD
Seagate SATA 4Tb ST4000M004 $101
GPU
Asus Prime RTX 5070 12gb $673
CASE
Lian Li A3 mAtx $96
PSU
XPG Core Reactor 650w 80 Plus Gold Full Modular $89

Kingston USB stick 64Gb $6 (for Windows and drivers)
Themalright LGA1700 BCF Contact Frame $21 (to fix the bending of mobo pins ?)
Case Fans Arctic F12 120mm 230-1350Rpm x5 $30

I guess the biggest question is if the i5 14400 can give me a good enough perfomance. I checked on other options like i7 12700k and i5 14600k, there are both on $270, so an increase of $87, but I think they would need a better cpu cooler. Other option would be a Ryzen 5 7600X with AsRock B650m Pro RS that would up the cost by $61 more.
Anyway, really appreciate any comment or observation in the matter. Thanks. Have a good day !

The RAM is going to be a bottleneck. Look for a set of 2x16GB DDR5-6000 CL30.

Nah, I wouldn't go for AM4 anymore until it's a budget gaming rig. But since there's already a RX 9070 in your suggestion, I'd go for AM5 without a doubt.

contact frame is USELESS. Zero problems with like ~10-15 builds of ANY price tag.
I'd replace:
- PSU with SeaSonic
- SSD WD SN350 with "black" model like SN770 for example. SN350 tends to be very short-lasting!
- replace HDD with either WD Red Plus or Seagate IronWolf

Other stuff are perfect. Don't believe in "RAM speed bottleneck" myth. 5200 is perfectly ok. You could choose like CL36 maybe, but, difference in performance is less than diff in price.

Creation Engine games, in particular, really appreciate fast memory. Just putting that out there if you're gonna be spending a lot of time in a modded Skyrim.

Not sure about pricing in Mexico, but I'd imagine it's about 10$ more for a CL30/6000 kit?

There's pretty great deals on ARL right now, and with all the updates, they're also performing much better than at launch. Here's an 8P+12E model for $250 (!!!).

Without using something like a 4090, you're not going to notice the difference between a platform like this, or something like the much more expensive X3D. However, creation engine games can be pretty CPU heavy, especially with a few mods. So I'd recommend something stronger than a locked Alder Lake CPU (everything below 14600 is not Raptor Cove cores).

RAM speed and capacity is also important.

Older Creation Engine games have issues beyond 60 FPS, frame generation can actually be very useful in this situation, as it disconnects the physics engine from the FPS, since they're not "real" frames. I.e. you can play at 120 FPS without bugs. AMD has OK frame generation, but there's really no question that DLSS is better, and in a lot more games too, than the limited amount of FSR4 games.

This also has a lot better SSD, cooling, PSU etc. Besides the much more modern platform, which will last longer connectivity wise, CPU wise etc.

There's no Mexico PCPartPicker so I used USA, should be close enough.

Avoiding 1 TB M.2 and SATA entirely is my recommendation. You can get very good 2TB NVMe drives for ~$100, so just add those till your storage needs are met.

CPU and board sounds expensive to me at $337. It's slower than a 7600X and you can get the slightly faster 9600X + board for $310.

YES, I'm talking gaming performance, that's what the OP was talking about.

9600X is OK, but 6 cores is minimum requirements tier CPU for many new games, certainly in future, frankly if he wants to play GTA VI and presumably newer games, I wouldn't go lower than 8 P cores, which means 7700/9700 at least. ARL starts seeming very compelling when you can get 8+12 cores for $260, and a gen 5 PCIe x16 and M.2 mobo with fast USB for another $150.

I have a hard time arguing with this^.
265k is actually a really good budget gaming build. The platform didn't sell great initially, so the motherboards are cheaper. 285k is still stupid expensive for subpar performance if you're primarily a gamer, but 265k starts to really open up some doors and for the pricing makes a lot of sense, especially when it comes to using the PC for any non-gaming tasks.

OP, I'd be curious if the parts above or similar are available to you in any sort of similar pricing. For most gaming needs, 32GB is plenty of RAM, so if you find a kit that's decent speed/timings at 32GB, I would consider that too. I only upgraded beyond 32GB for trying to host an Ark:SA server on my computer while also playing the game on the same computer (running both tasks had me using about 31GB lol).

AM4 is still the best platform - it gives 3D chips, too, and doesn't have the overheating and terrible chiplets placement issues of AM5, alongside the LGA nonsense.

5000-series had similar chiplet placement...
Slide28.png

That's why Arctic first came out with their offset mounting bracket for AM4. There was a separate issue with the AM5 chips running hotter than they needed to because they made the IHS thicker so they could accommodate the same coolers that worked with AM4 motherboards, but that isn't because of the chiplet placement.

With barely a glance I can tell you if available in your region it would be far superior to go with i5-14600K on sale for $200.
Pair that with an MSI B760m, RTX3080(ti) or 3090, and good quality 6000 or higher 32 GB of RAM.
Spend the money saved on a better 750w/850w PSU. Something with better transient spike response and warranty while removing the worst connector in recent PC history.
I'll state a fairly well established opinion it is better to come in far under budget in 2025 than think you have attained something for 2x or 3x.

Yeah, but it's a dead end platform. AMD does still release CPUs from time to time, but they're just variations of the same CPUs we already have.

I personally just wouldn't go for AM4 anymore unless it's a tight budget rig and I could use the saved money for a good deal of a GPU, though not anything overpowered which would bottleneck the CPU.

Hi guys. Thanks again for all the input on the subject. I have a revised list made paying more attention to the speeds of the RAM and NVME. Ditched the extra HDD and the contact frame for LGA1700. Also, forgot to add the peripherals on the previous list but here they are:

$10,388 MXN $548 US
Plus $3,557 MXN
It is just too much.

Sorry took that long to answer. Thanks again for your time.

RX 9070 isn't much more than that 5070, if you can squeeze a little bit more cash for it, it would be a no-brainer.

Is it really a no brainer RX 9070 over RTX 5070. Tought the software gimmicks would make it better, even with the 12Gb VRAM. Was very excited when saw it on discount ...
Also about the overhat problems in AM5, wich was an argument for AM4 tought this was the issue that the contact frames attempt to fix, on LGA1700. There are also available for AM5.

Oh, forgot to add that Im an avid data hoarder, thats why had included the extra 4tb HDD. Guess i can buy it later, with next paychek. It is fine a 5400rpm HDD for bulk storage right?. You know, files like movies, music, photos, etc. those that do not get readded non stop.

The chart is from 9060 XT review but 9070 and 5070 are both here, and I saw that you're going for 1440p.

Never heard of AM5 overheating, they do run hot but not like Intel heaters for example.

12% uplift for $1,790 MXN for this RX 9070. Oh man, putting it this way makes me hesitant. What about the DLSS, Frame Generation and stuff ? The inhouse review for the 5060 said that with this gimmicks it could be a viable 1440p card. Can only imagine it would be better with the 5070.

Never heard of AM5 overheating, they do run hot but not like Intel heaters for example.
I would add AM4/AM5 doesn't overheat per-se but they auto-regulate and reduce power and clocks when there is insufficient cooling as long as you don't override the CPU's control of power and clocks.

Personally, not a fan of 6core CPUs but you cannot deny that they win in terms of value.

Get the 7600 (non X) or 7500F if you can find it. Use a better motherboard, maybe MSI B650M Gaming Plus Wifi

I was in the same situation and chose to go with a used 5900x (AM4) but I won't recommend you to do that.

I would agree in that unless you can snag exceptional deals for AM4 parts to justify the frugalness, AM5 would be much better for performance. Of course any choice is moot if it doesn't fit in the budget.

Hey thanks. Prices in Amazon MX include taxes and shipping unless statted, so not to worry abou that. I can run the Win 11 inactivated for the time being (or endessly ?) right?

Both the Ryzen 5 7600 and 7500F are more expensive than 7600x due to being on discount for now.

Yeah watched the video and clearly heard to avoid the Asus Prime MOBO, rip ...

How about this one:
AsRock B650m Pro X3D for $3,607 MXN
Ryzen 5 7600x $3,985 MXN
$7,592 MXN (plus $761 to the overall budget)
Yes still in range.
