I bought this drive 4 or 5 years ago. I got it for cheap as a preowned drive that didn't behave properly. I got it to use as a pure 120GB flash drive and I used it as such. I love the drive when behaves as large capacity transfer drive. Some times it worked and sometimes the files were corrupted but most times they were OK. Sometimes Win 10 would not recognize it. It is probably a battery problem. I have it half full of stored transfer filed today and I noticed a slight bulge in it's formerly sleek package. My questions are, how does this 2012 hardware compare to todays SSD offerings? How many times can you unknowingly abuse this hardware before you break it or worse, loose your data and possibly even start a battery fire?

Because it is all about learning. How does this Mouse, LCD, CRT, Motherboard, chipset, peripheral, HDD, SSHD, OS, GPU, Cell Phone do what it does. Is it abandoned? Is it prone to corruption, hacking? Is it obsolete? At this moment my Kingston 120GB WI-Drive is fully charged and data is intact. It is perfect for transferring non critical data for who knows long. The case may be bulging but it works just fine for what I use it for. I'm interested because the drive does not get warm. I'm interested because it works. Why would I use an Abacus with missing beads? My 1yr old cellphone battery swelled up like this wi-drive was currently behaving. The battery didn't heat up or rupture but it ruined the cellphone. I came to TPU to get some knowledge. Why Would you ask me that!!?:kookoo:

Well I managed to solve this problem today. The main problem is Lithium ION batteries and their negative tendencies. I've had these batteries behave properly for years in my devices; phones, tools, and a ton of other electronics. When they go SOUTH they tend to swell in my instances. This tends to lead to bulged screens on cell phones and to cause other problems. I've never had a fire or a heating problem with Lithium ION but I don't plan on ignoring the little things that can lead to that event. Today I performed a delicate operation to remove a defective battery on my prized Wi-Drive. The operation was made difficult because of the robust construction of the drive! The battery is secured to the case with an adhesive that is a level above Gorilla Glue! After carefully prying this King Kong adhesive from the case I cut the battery wires and BINGO! I then plugged the drive into my PC. The drive works perfectly and I didn't loose 1 kb of data.

Yo thats dangerous dont hang out around that.

This is not a lesson you want to learn yourself. Get rid of that battery pack.

when they get too hot around ~40-50 degrees the get fat. Sometimes it's the user fault placing the phone in a hot car or in pure sunshine.

Must be pure quality device when they solder a battery directly without using connectors.

I agree about user fault. But Lithium ION is the new SHIT. Hoverboards, Samsung 7, Cars, Trucks, Planes, E bikes, Laptops, to Lollipops! I guess we must evolve to learn how to properly use the technology. This Wi-Drive wasn't exposed to any extremes other than leaving it connected to my PC for extended cycles. Well now I will sleep good at night knowing my 128GB flash drive will not burn my house down while I dream!

Might be old, but as long as it works, you can't exactly complain. I still have a 2GB flash drive I obtained around 2006? I believe, which still works. Speeds are terrible, but it works for BIOS flashes and for Memtest86+ purposes, so I've no reason to throw it out yet.

I would take it outside and puncture it :)

@Konomi, It still works Great as a128GB flash drive! I was surprised that the case snapped back together after surgery! I had used a BIG screwdriver to open it. Now it is as pretty as it was and is several grams lighter! I also have several of those 2GB, 4GB, flash drives from way back when. Good for BIOS flashing or a Pic or two. Speeds are as you said, BUT I have more time than I have money! Never throw it away! That nail video looks like fun, but true to my avatar, amateur rockit propellants are my thing. Hasta La Vista Baby.:toast:

Count Your Fingers, Count Your Toes. Amateur rocketry and computers and Y2K are all related. I fell in love with making 1" screamer rockets back then. After 9/11 things are not the same. You can still play around and get that rush and experiment. But Don't dare the devil if you don't consider the odds, rockit00.:pimp:
