What are you playing?

As I previously went through Via Infinito in Final Fantasy X-2 six times on PS3, now I'm doing the same for the PC version (five times done). Playing with Steam Deck of course as it's comfy.

Generally only use a guide if I know I will never play the title again, in which case I might check a guide AFTER I go through a section but before I move on (to check for things I missed). Most of the time I won't even go back for them, more out of curiosity than completeness.

I'm absolutely not an achievement hunter though, I usually end up with maybe ~25% of them. I do like to complete side quests and take my time with stuff, unless it's just busywork.

.. and by "guide" I mean the kind in writing ;)

Yeah, Memoria is a patcher/launcher/mod manager/mod. Run FFIX via steam once, then quit and run the Memoria Patcher (which will replace the FFIX launcher with a new one). Launch FFIX via steam again and there will be a "MOD" tab on the new interface. If you're gonna do it on Steam Deck.. umm IDK, I think there's instructions here though ->

Memoria: https://github.com/Albeoris/Memoria/releases
Moguri: https://sites.google.com/view/moguri-mod/install

this was exactly what i needed, thank you! i got it installed now, easier than i expected it to be, neat

I was unable to install one the mods with the manager, I figured it was a 'me' thing though, but it might be the latest build is just borked. It seems to delete the tmp file before it decompresses it.

The workaround was to check the ***\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY IX directory for 'modcatalog.xml' file. This has download URLs for the mods in the manager, so you can manually download. Then unzip into FFIX dir and enable via launcher. The zip will probably have a readme if it needs specific install process otherwise.

I was also able to just try over and over, it will eventually decompress and delete in the correct order (at least one of the two mods I installed).

EDIT: When manually installing: Open the Memoria.ini and add the mod to the foldernames variable >> FolderNames = "MoguriMain"

thanks, memoria does have a nice look to it, very clean launcher.

This is an aspect of modern gaming I truly hate. For one thing people call it "content", which is just insane. It's a game. You play it. It's not a video. Plus it's like people don't want personalized experiences anymore. Being able to "miss stuff" is good! Because that means you don't have the same experience as other people. That is a good thing!
Yes, I sort of feel the same way but I didn't want to come off as complaining, especially in response to another post. Ultimately, I don't want to "gatekeep" the way others play and experience their games. People should play the way they want to, even if that brings potential drawbacks to the experience.

But I do agree because hidden content is usually a small reward, not something detrimental to the experience if you don't obtain it. It's like...

Oh, you missed a certain weapon and that was the only way to get it? So what, it gets replaced within the hour by something better.

Oh, you missed the strongest end game weapon? So what, the second strongest already sees that you are way overpowered.

Oh, you missed an item you can't buy so there's a limited number of them? So what, is that single one mandatory?

This is why whenever I watch someone play, I try not to give "oh, make sure you go here and grab this or else you'll lose your only chance" suggestions because then like... what's the point?

I will be fair and admit that the missable things in some games, and this includes Final Fantasy IX in some ways, actually does prevent you from seeing/getting not-mandatory-but-important things. One non-spoiler example is that Freya and Amarant are known to be somewhat underdeveloped characters, right? They have some of their limited development in optional ATEs, at least Amarant does (Freya's is less of development and more of "I'll do this after I'm done tagging along with the party"). But even then it's not mandatory as he's still a an underdeveloped character with it. It just explains how he and Zidane met. Some of this stuff was probably intended for if you do additional play-throughs (probably more common years ago than it is these days where game variety is much higher and we have less time to give any single game) or for those who go out of their way to explore. This whole game in particular is about exploring. Pulling up a guide and then following it as a checklist often turns gaming into a chore and not an experience. You're no longer naturally experiencing the game, you're just following instructions. Your experience becomes predetermined.

Unfortunately, there was probably no avoiding this once the internet became mainstream, especially in video (and now streaming) form. Even before that, we had strategy guides. Final Fantasy IX infamously has what is considered the worst one ever, haha (which is not the fault of the game or even the author who made it, but because Square wanted pieces cut out and put onto their online service instead).

On one hand, I get it though. You buy something and you fear you're not getting the full experience unless you see all the content, and that's probably been a growing concern as time went on because...

1. Games actually are cutting out content and serving it as DLC.

2. We have "less time" because there's more game variety, meaning less time to devote to a single game.

3. Online culture has everything available (some games have and need entire Wikis devoted to them...) so you further feel like you're not "efficiently spending your time" if you don't "get everything".

Granted, I don't fully agree with these reasons because not getting everything does not equal "missing content", at least most of the time. But I can at least see how things have changed here.

I personally only refer to guides after the fact, or if I'm having trouble (this occurred with some puzzles in Tormented Souls), and then I'll only refer to the relevant bits for that part of the game.

I'm playing TLOU2 for the first time and still kinda playing rebirth but I have a bad habit of losing interest in games when I get near the end, so I'm going at a snails pace. Its like, "well I've seen most of what there is to see..." But I put so much time into it, and over 6 months at this point, I'm gonna see it through.

The first part is still on my backlog.

As for that second thing, Dragon Quest XI sounds like it would be bad for you, haha. That's because there's so much content available (and in contrast to the previous side topic that came up, little if nothing is missable in this game), and you probably will get triple digit hours out of it if you try and do everything. Something that long sounds like it might wear on you, but despite that, I still had a "I really don't want this to end" feeling when I was nearing the end.

I loved dragon quest 11. I finished both two chapters, but not the third, as its, well you know, kinda extra content, well thats what I considered it. But I did do some, and I put a lot of time into that game. A lot.... Running around trying to find those secret chests or whatever they were.

I am giving up on it, I can't get it for anything, I downloaded the mod manually like you said from the memoria links in my FFIX folder, i copy pasted them in 3 different places and still no luck, not showing up in mod manager

am i copying the moguri mod into the wrong folder? am i supposed to copy it into x64 folder only? i tried copying it into the memori folder, that didn't work, so i tried the main directory, and replacing the files it asked me to replace, that didn't make it show up in mod manager either...

Sorry, I completely forgot to include this step, when manually installing:

Open the Memoria.ini and add the mod to the foldernames variable:

After that, it should appear in the mods section of launcher.

My dir looks like:

Apart from that, everything looks right. I turned off the "Check for Updates" option as soon as I had it up and running, so not sure. That first screenshot is the old installer it appears? Maybe the update rolled back to an old version. Sounds like it's a bit flusterclucked atm.

Yeah, the informal "third act" is more or less "post game" so stopping before it as the "end" isn't terrible. It also has some story changes though, as it basically...

(Slight spoiler but nothing specific.)

Takes some of the "sad" happenings in the second act and makes them "happy endings".

@JIWIL @Princess Garnet

HERE WE GO!!!! I finally got it :D

I don't think I am going to do any other mod though, just this one for now.

Playing Drive Beyond Horizons... Today I tried running it at 8K resolution, just because I thought it would be funny

Better than My Summer Car, or The Long Drive

A bit temperamental at 8K... Unreal engine crashes now and then, but its fun to look at. The game is just silly fun so it's refreshing to relax with after a long day's work.

I enjoyed Bulletstorm more than I expected, I thought this game gonna be like Michael Bay or even Steven Seagal film, a lot of explosion, a lot of people dead but feels flat, but it isn't. Action from get go, there is some RPG elements to upgrade weapon, utilities and weapon alt fire which is nice.

The train chase section reminds me of Quake 4.

You get a control mecha T-Rex on one section of the game and cause chaos, how cool is that? :rockout:

Yep that its name

Hey I remember bulletstorm, played it way back in the day on my gtx 560. That bulletstorm? This was before I discovered my love of jrpgs and was just getting back into gaming after a bit of a absence, so I was looking for fps games. I remember not really liking a lot of what I was finding at the time, but I liked bulletstorm.

I try to play this game again, but really I'm so bad at timing and parry things, and because of it hard for me to enjoy this game so does other games that depends on it like hack and slash games like Metal Gear Rising. I just can't.....

On my 'newly build' Windows 7 retro gaming PC I started to play Need For Speed Most Wanted, only on blacklist 14 climbing up (yep the PC is off the internet and any network so I take pictures)

Also playing Doom3 Resurrection of Evil on it

There is a mod for Claire Obacure that makes dodging, parrying, jumping etc slightly easier I recommended it to a buddy who was having the same issue and he liked the game significantly better after.

There is? Alright I'm gonna check it out then. The worse thing about the QTE is there isn't any prompt for it. There is QTE on Bulletstorm but there's prompt of it so no matter how slow you are you still know when to hit them. And of course being FPS and a fast paces one for sure you gonna react fast when it happen, on slow turn-based game meanwhile it often caught me by surprise especially during counter-attack.

Jumped back into PUBG after many months, but it's still the same ol' story: skulk around for 25 min without anything much happening only to get insta-killed by some streamer on steroids later.
Not hatin' thou, I think it's one of the best MMFPS ever, but I just don't have time or stamina for this anymore.

Tried some Delta Force recently, it's much more approachable - matches are shorter and you will get to shoot some people, though of course it's a totally different gameplay style. Is there any battle royale that offers a bit more condensed experience than PUBG?

I never bothered with PUBG... Respect to those who play it at any capacity, but ARMA3 is about the furthest I'll go in that direction of multiplayer

I'm still on the ship in Far Cry and this is the tricky part - hint: heli.
You can set AA to 4x, transparency AA to SuperSample and AF to 8x in nv control panel or AMD equivalent to properly enjoy the pictures (I see you're only running AA @ 2x).
