RX 9070 XT freezing/locking up only on desktop, anyone else?

I've also experienced freezes, but they only last 1-3 seconds and I notice them when hovering over video previews (e.g. in Google) or when hovering over friends in Steam's chat, which brings up an animated preview of their profile. Sometimes this issue goes away, sometimes it comes back. I can't really identify the pattern.

But aside from this, I'm experiecing unexpected restarts when running specific software like the Apple Music W11 app. If you have a sub, maybe you can see if that does anything weird to your system. I spent a lot of time searching, but I haven't encountered anyone ever having the same issue. It does sound a little like what @Dr. Dro described about media decoding, because I only really see it happen in very low load situations with media playback (music). In gaming my system is completely stable. Also when stressing the card a little with GPU-Z's test.

I ran a bunch of troubleshooting, but because the issues didn't happen when using the iGPU or a different (Nvidia) GPU, I sent the 9070 back for repair/replacement. I'm still waiting for an answer from the shop.

With MPO disabled, I'm not getting any freezes, but I sense mouse is sometimes feeling weird like it's not as smooth as it should be. Less annoying than freezes but still, wtf man. So annoying since RX 9070 XT is phenomenal in games, but such low end crap really ruins it.

I was so desperate I've tried one more thing that's stupid, but I had to try it. I've taken CPU out of socket, cleaned it all, remounted it. Lets see...

Nope, reseating CPU didn't help. Someone on Reddit mentioned they had issues with BIOS switch being in the middle and not one or the other state. I checked that on my Radeon, but was fine on one position. So I decided to flip it to the other since my XFX has 2 identical BIOSes in either position. Lets see...

If that fails, I'll have to really put RTX 3080 back into my system and see what's up. Not looking forward to that since RX 9070 XT is so much faster...

What about LatencyMon test?

So awesome when system doesn't f**king log anything. I just managed to induce the freeze and it logged NOTHING. This is F insane. How am I suppose to debug anything when there is no event logs, no latency logs, nothing. ffs

I had problems in Win11 Enterprise IoT LTSC when I had my Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Dual and I found out it was the audio driver in the Nvidia driver which caused my system after a reinstalling to have cracking audio.

What I did when I changed to my Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 Pure I ran DDU and installed the AMD Adrenalin drivers even with the AI chat to try it and keeping my other AMD drivers such as chipset drivers updated and I don't have any issues with my current system.

Could you try running DDU and don't let Windows 11 Pro install any drivers maybe disconnect the internet and than test if LatencyMon shows better behavior if it does than install the latest AMD Adrenalin 25.6.3 Beta and see if it still works if not back track and maybe do a driver only see if it's some software causing a conflict @RejZoR

if it happens exclusively with the 9070XT on a fresh windows installation, RMA it.
i have two 9070XTs and neither one has this issue.

Yeah well, mine didn't have this issue when I bought it either. It just suddenly started happening around late May or early June. Considering I've tried drivers from before then and still had the issues I'm suspecting Windows fucked something up.

I'm turning MPO off again and leaving it this way for entire week. If I get no freezes I'm going to start bitching at AMD because if just without MPO there are no freezes, that rules out all hardware faults and narrows it down to a single subsystem of an OS.

I've been turning MPO on and off for testing and while never leaving it for whole week, I've not had a single freeze with MPO OFF ever. Where with it ON, sooner or later the freeze happened. It's just stupid that if I want to have system without freezing I'm sacrificing performance as whole because of this and it sucks.

I wish you good luck with AMD ever fixing whatever that is. :D
But to be fair, when shit only impacts a couple of users you're done, the best is to avoid certain problematic products.

Yeah it sucks so hard because for gaming I love my RX 9070 XT card. It's amazing and I don't have any issues in games. It's the fucking desktop only that's doing this.

I've dealt with exactly that same problem with my RX 5700xt, so i know how frustrating it is. i would be constantly losing my work. I just sold it and moved on.
Same exact system, same settings, new card (different vendor), nothing else changed, no more problems. That's one of the reasons i don't want to upgrade, it seems no card is safe now.

OK, use DDU and remove your Audio driver, then install it again and see if it is ok.

this thread is hilarious, the guy bought a new PSU for nothing, remembered some posts back here and the usual "advices"

driver 23.12.1 seems to be a solution for a lot of issues, try that

Reinstalling the Radeon driver many times won't help when the problem is coming from the audio driver, which happens occasionally thanks to MS and partners.
Like I said it in and post 39 because it's a common issue.

I didn't buy new PSU. Also how am I suppose to install driver 23.12 when RX 9070 XT didn't even exist back then?

I have no IRQ conflicts based on that app and LatencyMon sees nothing. I've deleted AMD audio drivers and disabled High Definition Audio entirely... I still think it's just MPO bullshit, but I'll test that entire next week to confirm it...

Do you happen to use Freesync by any chance ?

If so, what happens if you keep MPO + HAGS + Freesync enabled after modifying this registy key to "0" ? :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DwmOverlayMinFPS

I do use FreeSync. I've actually not tried disabling FreeSync on monitor and in Radeon settings. Might do that.
