I currently have an MX500, which is about 2 years old now. For anyone who's switched, is the difference really noticeable? I like to do snap-kills (or twitch if you want to call it that) in shooting games where I don't really have to "aim" at all.

I also have a crappy rubber mousepad, will the laser precision still be as good?

I have no idea but would you sell that MX500?

I have used the G7 at a friends place on TF2 and CSS. It definitely made a huge difference over my previous microsoft mouse, but i havent used the MX500 so i cant compare it to that. I just prefer to have a corded mouse, so i went with the g5.

For gaming, I would definitely go with a corded mouse. I made the switch, and its a huge difference... aiming is much more precise.

I opted for the MX518 because it tracked better on my mousepad when compared to the G5, and has that 1 extra thumb button... I use it for frags and knife kills for COD4.

I have a steelseries steelpad QcK +. It's massive.

I switched from the MX700(cordless MX500) to the G7. The difference is huge, I love the G7. It is so much more precise, and quicker too.

You don't need a corded mouse for gaming, there is no reason for it.

I agree I have a G7 and play COD4 and it is a great mouse! I will never need a new one.

These days the threat of latency/polling issues with a wireless mouse are less, but they still do occur, and because there's extra electronics involved with the product, as always, it's succeptable to errors.

I would continously recommend a wired mouse, unless there was something absolutley particular about the wireless that you required/needed.

Both the G5 and G7 are decent mice. I look down upon them a bit though because the scroll wheel tilt function is a gimmick, and the lip that rests below the left side buttons is too restrictive, hence I resorted to things like the Adder, Habu, Lachesis etc.

Either way, you should appreciate the G5/7 over your MX, which I have never believed to be a 'gaming mouse;' decent quality, nice feel, but not 'gaming.'

Okay, so I have it now. The texture of the rubber feels funny.

How come the laser won't light up? I have setpoint installed.

infrared lasers :)

ok... uuh does that mean it's still bad for your eyes if you look at it?

I recently got a G5 to replace my old MX1000 wireless. Decided to go with the G5 over the G7 because I have no need for wireless. It was cool to have wireless back in 2004 with the MX1000, now I came back to reality with the G5.

Yes. If you turn over the mouse although the mouse laser is not visible, it is a laser... But the laser is so weak it would only do damage if you looked at it a long time. The only way lasers do damage is the UV. All lasers that are made by logitech have UV filters, but some light always gets through, so...
