Hey my friend is going to give me $170 for my old C2D e6750 and I was going to upgrade to a kentsfield q6600. Is is worth spending the extra $60 for the quad core? or should I make him order his own processor? my other specs are listed in my system specs button. Please Advice ASAP

Go for it! Me, I wouldn't. But I don't have much extra money, specifically the reason I got the 6750 instead of the quad. If your situation allows for it though, it would definately be an upgrade.

what is your primary use for your pc?
because atm quads are overkill for anything other than rendering, hardcore photo-editing, sound editing, ect...
you really wont notice much if any difference in games, although a quads a quad, i personally would go for it if i had the cash(what can i say i love new stuff)

That 1066 will actually work out to your advantage when oc, since the higher multiplier will allow for higher clocks at lower fsbs. However, b/c quads don't oc as well as the dual-core, you will end up about the same most likely.

And it does indeed depend on what you are doing as to whether you will notice much difference.

If your going to just be doing gaming, you really won't see much of a difference. Crysis doesn't show increase in using quad over dual, nor do most games. That will eventually change, but who knows when.

In games that aren't optimized for quads you would only notice a few frames but games that are you would get a pretty big boost.

The great thing about the quad is that it never slows down. Background processes are easily handled by one of the spare cores. e.g. you can play a game and have MP3 player in the background, noproblemo.

For everyday use... you will notice a gain with the quad in encoding, photoshop, and even PRINTING... or PDF generation (depending on which PDF program you are using). If you *only* use the PC for gaming or for simple internet stuff, then stick with a dual, and use the cash to upgrade your GPU/memory/HDD.

Hey buddy! Where abouts are you located? Follow this link: http://www.microcenter.com/at_the_stores/index.html If you have a microcenter within driving distance of you then you can pick one up for $199! The one in my area sells out every few days but they usually get new shipments in twice a week. Me and my friends have already picked up a few. :toast:

The way ive figured out the differance is...

A quad core is like a Cummings Diesel Engine, high torque low rpm, while a dual Core is a 383 V-8, high torque high rpm. A Quad can do a ton of stuff at a lower clock speed then what a dual core can.

A quad will eat anything you put in its way, but in order to take advantage you really need to break the 3Ghz bottleneck. If not, your gfx cards might suffer, my 8800GT did until i clocked over 3.2.

Your IP-35 from what i hear and researched can handle quads well. So its up to you i guess.
