ive been having trouble getting the ping pong direct x 10.1 demo from ATI to work.

I have vista x64 with service pack 1
GPU= HD3870
I also downloaded and installed latest version of directx with march 2008 updates.

Here is the error it gives:

=== Sushi 3.1 Build 183 (Compiled on Mar 12 2008 14:00:21)

[19:14:26] Unable to get audio driver name: No errors.
[19:14:26] 5:4 monitor detected
[19:14:26] Screen resolution is 1280x1024
[19:14:26] DX10.1 init failed. Unable to fall back to DX10.0 because this demo requires DX10.1.
.\SuEngine.cpp(298) : [19:14:26] CRITICAL: Error creating 3D window.
[19:14:29] Peak memory usage: 1.01 MB
[19:14:29] Current memory usage: 0.94 MB

seems it cant get directx 10.1 to activate for some reason. I have all the necessary hardware/software to run the demo. Any helpful ideas?

IDK, I am having a similar problem running it on my PC with an HD3870X2 (Vista SP1, DX 10.1 and Cat 8.3's). The PC locks up on me hard, and I have to hit the reset button to recover.

Are you using the the latest Cat drivers?

I believe im running the cat 8.4 drivers. I know they are the ones that supposedly support DX 10.1, however, this demo dosent seem to work still.

this dosent worry me too much about the demo, but what about when games start taking advantage of DX 10.1 and my PC reverts to 10.0?

Try re-installing SP1
then
March 2008 Directx in safe mode.
then
reboot to desktop and try again.

Cat 8.3 are the latest release. Do you have some kind of beta we're not aware of?

No I have the 8.3's. The 8.4 was a typo.

Id rather not have to reinstall SP1. It took just under an hour to install the first time. I know there are many others out there who should be able to run the demo but can't.

Good to hear. Any side effects for you with the new driver?

no bad bugs or anything. I haven't had any lockups or crashes. this just kinda seems like Cat 8.3 v2.0 with general fixes and updates. No stuttering in games at all, though I didnt have stuttering with 8.3 either :/ .

As for the demo, the framerate is very smooth on my setup. My high score is 871 balls but i can do better :) .
