Im wondering if my network is running at the speed it should. Before I start, the hardware:
Linksys wrt330n wireless gigabit router
1/2/3 metre CAT6e network cable
Onboard gigabit network cards (ASUS P5b deluxe, Gigabyte G33M-DS2R)
Server with PCI gigabit card will be put in next week
Now going from a 10/100 network to a gigabit, I did expect to see over double the network speed. Over the network, I have no idea of my read speed, but my write speed is 6-8MB/s (starts at 10MB/s...taken from windows vista's "more information"). Then, for no apparent reason, it will drop to 2-3MB/s. Not always, but most of the time.
Both computers have two hard drives in RAID0. Should I be expecting more or is this about right? (Hard drive limitations?). The 8MB/s seems about OK (seeing as copying files on the local machine goes at about 12MB/s)..but why would it drop to 2?
I have both firewalls disabled (on each computer).
Also, I ran a quick network benchmark testing the "performance" of the network (not sure if its read or write) and it got average 24MB/s, max 32MB/s. Program is called AIDA32 using the network plugin. (Its the old everest).
Thx in adv
