Sony Announces $399, 80GB PLAYSTATION 3 Bundle

I still recommend the 60GB with hardware support. That's why I didn't mention the 80GB.

Definitely get a 60GB version if you can find one. I have one and love it, though I hvae my PS2 hooked up right under it and play my PS2 games on it since it is modded and I can play the games directly off the hard drive.

My friend bought the 80GB version, and according to him, he hasn't found a game yet that hasn't worked. But really, once you get a PS3, your PS2 games start to collect dust anyway.

I really thought I wanted the backwards compatibility, but I don't think I have spent 2 hours playing my PS2 since I got my PS3.

There is also still a rumor going around that Sony will be adding backwards compatiblity to the 40GB model(and this 80GB model) via full software emulation. How well this will work, and if it is even true, has yet to be seen.

That is only if you can find one...plus the 80gb should be good enough more pretty much all backwards compatibility. Sony has a nice reference site to see how well the game plays. http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus . If all the games you want to play is ok with the 80gb, then there is no point in finding the 60gb.

All this different PS3 bundles with different size hard drive? Right now there is only 1 version of the PS3 being sold, when this is released there will be 2.

No, when this console is released there will still be 1 PS3 console. This is a replacement SKU, not a new model.

This is what my Nephew was telling me about yesterday. I was like, they already have this and it offers software emulation, not true hardware like my ps3 does. No biggy, now they have the 80gb and 40gb (with the 40gb soon to be discontinued???)

You could say disconintued. It's actually being replaced. The 80GB has the same SKU as the 40GB, they are giving you 40 more GBs for the same price.
