Overclocking depends greatly on temperature, so having an AIO or even a custom loop will increase the max clocks. I tried a 3700X that runs below 90C at 1.4v, on custom loop, and it's stable at 4350 on all cores. No throttling.
I also have a 3900X that runs 4450 @ 1.425v on all cores, but it...
I use Distiled water + ethylene Glycol 1:1 for more than 6 years and no issues. Basically, the mix also helps the pump as it is a little greasy.
@Mr.Scott I am curious about the chiller. I have one that can do -46C on the HX and I am using Glycol+ethanol. I thought of using windshield liquid...
99C is the limit of Intel, but many boards usually have the setting on 100-105C, and it can also be set manually, so CPU throttling starts there, not on 99C. Or it may not start at all, if power management settings are disabled.
CPU degradation is not an Internet myth, especially on air/water...
That is not true! I've reviewed several Asus X299 boards and Asus hasn't told me that.
Yet, a value above 1.25V will get the CPU hot if cooling is not appropriate.
You can read the vcore, vin, vccio, etc with HWInfo. It is pretty accurate and it also shows the min and max values so you know...
I am sure (from experience) that if you would have bought the cheapest x470 non-Gigabyte board, you wouldnt experienced ram issues.
I received those boards for reviews and i will not get cheaper versions to test.
Yet, i can get a Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7 to test RAM on it. I will get it next...
Hi, I've tested 3x X470 motherboards (Asus Crosshair VII Hero, Asus Strix X470-F Gaming and ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate) and all 3 can run my TridentZ at 3600 16-16-16-36 at 1.35V, no matter if it is DOCP or manual settings. They even run 3733 12-12-12, so it's a lot of potential in X470...
Nothing was wrong. That is what happened. Original TIM is very bad on 7700K.
And i am not the only one with 20C+ lower temp on 7700K.

@EarthDog, it is not BS.
I delided 6x 6700k and all gain around 16-18C core temp. 7700K is even worse. Mine gain 26C after delid.
TIM used: Gelid GC Extreme. Liquid metal may gain another 2-3C.
All test were done using custom water cooling with 560mm radiator.
As @infrared already said, delid is your answer. Without that, you'll just circle around 1-2C depending on the TIM you use. Delid will give your cores between 10 and 20C (depends on several things) lower temps.
I have MSI GTX 1070 Ti Gaming 8G and it can do +210MHz on GPU (1893MHz Boost) and +800MHz (2252MHz) on memory in Afterburner. Power and gpu voltage to max. Fan manually at 70%.
For air, I recommend Noctua NH-U14S or NH-D15, if you have the budget for the later. On Amazon, they are 68EUR, respectively 89EUR.
For water, first check if your case supports radiators.
I've found Cooler Master Seidon 240 at 58EUR, which should be a good deal.
Hi,
First step for better cooling your 7700K is delid and change the thermal interface with better TIM, preferably liquid metal. That will give the CPU at least 20C lower temp on the cores.
Water cooling is better, but can be more expensive than air, for a better performance. Depends on your...
