Upgrading from R5 2600X to R7 5800X on a new mobo MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS

Nah, keeping it to recycle in a secondary rig!

Upgrading from R5 2600X to R7 5800X on a new mobo MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS

Yeah given that the RAM will work, I'll opt for the 5900X. Great info, thanks for that.

Seems like everybody's trying to steer me away from Noctua. Any reason? Look doesn't go with the Christmas tree / PC hybrid?

Upgrading from R5 2600X to R7 5800X on a new mobo MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS

Thank you. I'm currently running a 10-year-old Corsair 120mm AIO LCS (the H100? H100i? not sure anymore) which I know would be sufficient, but I'm also wondering if after 10 years I'm not just better off getting something new, as these things are probably not eternal. Gonna look at what Noctua...

Upgrading from R5 2600X to R7 5800X on a new mobo MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS

Well actually I wasn't sure. The RAM isn't on the approved list for that MSI board, and when I built that 2600X machine, the RAM was very finicky, so I thought it would again be ultra-finicky this time around. Thank you for your help guys!!

Upgrading from R5 2600X to R7 5800X on a new mobo MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS

So here's the deal: I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 2600X, on an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING and my RAM is the G.Skill DDR4 p/n F4-3000C15-8GRBB I have purchased and received the motherboard because that's the one I want. MSI have been very very good to me, unlike others. Now looking at the...

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

So it turns out your idea was perfect! I was able to get both keyboard and mouse working on both the laptop and the desktop with a PS/2 KVM using USB to PS/2 adapters! This was achieved using a Filco Majestouch keyboard and a generic optical mouse. My thanks to each and everyone of you who...

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

LOL I have a Filco Majestouch Ninja Tenkeyless, I'll bet it does work with this setup! As for getting a really old keyboard, I doubt I could find one with the kind of smooth typing response that would be appropriate for the use it's intended for. Not to mention that, ewww used hardware... AND it...

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

Yep, have them. I am concerned by the possibility that each step of conversion to / from USB / PS/2 adds uncertainty that things will work. But since even the pros on this forum don't have access to magical manufacturer information, there is no choice but to try, risk, and see... :-/

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

The monitor aspect of this is by far the least important in our situation. She'll be happy if we can get keyboard & mouse switching, because typing for hours on end on a laptop is not fun, and having 2 keyboards and 2 mice, along with a laptop and 2 monitors is just a huge waste of space.

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

I have looked, believe me. Searching everywhere for Cherry MX Red PS/2 yields no PS/2 keyboards. :( I find it frustrating that there is no info on why this or that particular keyboard may or may not work through an USB to PS/2 adapter. She has very good reasons for using both the desktop and...

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

Yeah we have one of those, software doens't freak as mentioned earlier. But one keyboard tried with it stops functioning... Thanks I think I'll just get that steelseries mechanical one, and if we can't KVM the two computers well... She'll just have to live with that I guess.

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

Yeah that's almost exactly the KVM we have for this situation. The laptop has only USB ports. I was hoping to use a USB to PS/2 converter, and that the reason why *SOME* USB devices don't work on a PS/2 KVM through a USB converter was "only" power limits. But as the title says, there is very...

PS/2 peripherals still useful, but little to no info...

I already have the KVM, it isn't any of those models, because they are USB and as I wrote before, and the entire reason for this post is that I cannot use an USB one, given that the loaned laptop will see it as a security risk and log everything off until it's disconnected. Or somesuch. Which is...
