The problem that I see isn't just Intel flexing their muscle, it's the fact that AMD hasn't been able to get away from using these licensing agreements with Intel. Does AMD plan on being tied with Intel forever or do they actually have some real R&D going to change their place in the industry?

If you can't tell, it sets your NIC to get a DHCP address.
I thought about this some more and I believe the driver issue will be the LSI controller for your hard drives. If your installer has an option to add a driver before installation, then find out exactly what hard drive controller you are using and try to find a Linux compatible driver for it...
My first thought is did you try the HP site. They usually have drivers available for each OS that the machine is compatible with. If it's not on there, then there won't be any HP drivers anywhere, you'll have to find an alternative solution.

I'm not familiar with how BitDefender is setup, but I meant that you could set up a rule that would block any traffic over wireless from the other machine(192.168.0.*, but don't block your router, ofcourse :)), and make sure it allows whatever IP you set for the LAN. In my case I use Comodo...

this happened to me before. I heated up the heatsink with a blowdryer and a used a qtip with alcohol to dissolve some of the thermal paste. then i used my fingers to try and push around the processor till it came loose.
