Why doesn't every house have solar installed?

our old house doesn't get any sunlight due to thick tree cover, so solar would be useless.

Anyone know if Rufus gets around the SSE4.2 issue with Windows 11 24H2?

That's not possible without recompiling Windows. Either use an older version of 11, use 10, or upgrade your system.

What phone you use as your daily driver? And, a discussion of them.

they run 15, 2 (almost 3) versions old. all the apps I use are fine the 6 runs iOS 12 which is much older. it's still reasonable to support iOS 15, iOS 12 is the lowest version you can support for new apps/app updates and there's not really a reason to. developing for iOS 12 isn't fun

upgraded(?) from a regular 7 to a 7 plus. i don't care much for newer iOS and my current 7 has been fine - just the 2GB RAM really limits it. 7 plus has 3GB though, plus a larger screen!

At least with iPhones you get a choice about the SoC you get (albeit for a price). Exynos vs Snapdragon is just "where do you live".

SK Hynix VP Reveals HBM Production Volumes for 2024 are Sold Out

This sounds interesting. Kind of like the old Gigabyte i-RAM that used DDR1? Maybe it could finally saturate a PCIe 5.0 x16 link.

How does windows decide if a drive is HDD or SSD ?

In Task Manager (not sure about other places), Windows figures out if a drive is an SSD or HDD by how fast it is. This can cause problems for really really old SSDs that aren't faster than HDDs, but those are not common and typically very bad. 64MB IDE SSD anyone?

22 GB Modded GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Cards Listed on Ebay - $499 per unit

The 3090 exists. Also, SLI is completely useless for gaming now. No new game takes advantage of it to the point that two 2080 Tis is better than one.

Nice. Kind of like the guy who modded their 3070 to have 16GB of VRAM https://www.tomshardware.com/news/3070-16gb-mod

Consider getting a beeper speaker so you can get some form of error code

My pc wont post but turns on

Do you have a POST code readout, or a beeper speaker to see if it tells you any errors?

Samsung Introduces the 990 EVO SSD with PCIe 5.0 x2 Interface

Huh, interesting. Can't say I've seen this weird PCIe lane count trick before, but it's cool - hopefully Samsung will tell us how it works in some level of detail. Curious what they'll call their next generation of SSDs. 991 EVO/Pro? 1000 EVO/Pro? 1K EVO/Pro?

Problems with RAM, trying to understand what is happening

Even Zen 2 is a big upgrade. My 1600X could only manage my 2x8GB kit of B-die at 3200 C16 max (rated for 3200 C14). Switching to a 3600 and it ran at 3200 C16 fine combined with a 2x8 set of Vengeance LPX Nanya sticks - or a 4x16 Hynix set at 3200 C16. Not sure what dies though OP, if possible...
