I have everything built and I think it's time to do some light overclocking. I used to use a gigabyte mobo, so things used to be simple. With this Asrock dual sata 2 939, it's a bit more complicated.

What I need is instructions on overclocking the Athlon 64 3000+ 939 Venice. The proper settings for the HTT and multipliers. I am not looking to modify the voltages and I am looking to make it a 3200-3400+. I also need to know what safe temperatures are for this CPU. My system specs are <---- over there. Thanks in advance.

OK, I modified the FSB to 210x9 to make it 1.9GHZ. My temps are 42*C under heavy load. How much further can I go? Will 220 be safe? My ram timings are 3-3-3-6 if it matters.

You cant get far with these latencies, perhaps 215. if you want to get more fsb, you have to use a memory divider e.g. 200/166

If you're not too bothered about your memory being overclocked, I would advise going to 220 with a 9 or 10 multiplier, then put the memory divider at something around 9/10. Make sure you look at the multipliers for the HT and Chipset too, or things might get sticky with some motherboards.

I would advise looking at this link for more information, it's a very comprehensive guide to overclocking Athlon 64s:

also upgrade your cooling. A freezer 64 pro is going for about $25 USD and offers great cooling for the price.

Yup, that's the fan I'm going for when I upgrade my CPU in a week or so, it's supposed to be pretty damn quiet too.

Can't believe you guys don't have a clue how to overclock a Venice!
* Firstly, the multiplier of a 3000+ is stuck at 9 (or less), so 10 is out of the question.
* Secondly, the FSB will reach 300 on the CPU's side without a problem.
* Thirdly, of course arrange the LDT so you do not overclock your HTT above 1Ghz (which I a sure you are doing).
* Finally, avoid overclocking you rmemory while overclocking your cpu, because if something goes wrong, you won't know if it was your memory's fault, or your CPU overheating or whatnot.

And also, look at my signature in the A64 3000+ line, click that, it will bring you an overclocking calculator and will permit you to understand more what you are doing.

Sometimes I really hate this asscrack motherboard. I can't find anything on HTT, what I can find is the Northbridge and southbridge HTT transfer speed. I can set it to 200, 400, 600, 800, or 1000MHZ. Do I need to set this down to 800 to OC the CPU FSB? Thanks in advance.

Software Linux?^^ ;P Windows 7 64bit
1000=x5
800=x4
and so on

on my asus its the same^^
so 800 for fsb up to 250 is okay

Heres how I did it on my asrock dual

I set my voltage on high, turned all the ports off im not using, I set the frontside bus so that it only overclocks the Cpu bus, not the pci bus. I then set my ram which is at ddr400 to ddr 333 and upped my 200 multiplier frontside bus to 266 giving me a 2.4 ghz speed. I can run stable at 2.42 but whats the point. When I left my ram set at ddr400 I could only overclock to a 2.2 ghz speed. It seems by down clocking your ram it changes your frontside bus speed multiplier and lets you overclock higher. Also if memory serves me right, my ram is running at like 442 effective (not sure how that works LOL:rolleyes: ). Almost forgot I loosened my ram timing to 3335. Im new at this and have the same motherboard as you have. If you find a better way to do this let me know. I not sure if this rookie helped you but this is the best I have. Sure was easier with the old AMD Xps!!!!:banghead:

Yeah, using a divider to downclock your memory will allow you to increase your FSB a bit more, but what you set your memory at before you increase your FSB isn't what it's going to stay at. It scales up with the FSB, so you could increase your FSB to get it back up to DDR400 speeds, while overclocking your CPU.

There's a good overclocking calculator at http://www.blurbdesigns.com/OcCalc/calc.htm
I'm not sure how relevent it will be for you though, as it's for AMD 64 processors. Just think of HTT as FSB and look at the memoryh dividers and you can see what effect they'll have on each other.
