It appears that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Dell, HP and Toshiba, have issued another laptop battery recall for Sony branded batteries. It's very unfortunate that the Sony battery fiasco is still a problem. According to the new data, Lithium-Ion batteries used in about 35,000 Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell Notebook Computers can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers. The information is based on 19 reports of laptop batteries still overheating, including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). Consumers should immediately remove the recalled battery from their notebook computer, and contact their computer manufacturer to determine if their battery is included in the recall and to request a free replacement battery. The bad battery packs are used in laptops from all kinds, including models retailing from $700 to models that cost around $3000. There's a list of the models in danger below, that might help.

Hewlett-Packard
- HP Pavilion: dv1000, dv8000 and zd8000
- Compaq Presario: v2000
- HP Compaq: nc6110, nc6120, nc6140, nc6220, nc6230, nx4800, nx4820, nx6110, nx6120, nx9600
Recalled batteries will have a bar code label starting with A0, L0, L1 or GC

Toshiba
- Satellite: A70/A75, P30/P5, M30X/M35X, M50/M55
- Tecra: A3, A5, S2

Dell
- Latitude: 110L
- Inspiron: 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150, 5160
Battery labels with OU091 code

This reminds me of that episode of the Boondocks about Gangstalicious.

-Gangstalicous was shot.
-AGAIN?
-A-GAIN.

Sony should to be heavily fined for this. To make the same mistake twice and in such a dangerous way is really bad. Someone is going to get seriously hurt if better checks are not performed on batteries before they start shipping them.

I'm glad this doesnt affect mine, not on Sony, I dont know what I'd do if my laptop suddenly caught on fire. :shadedshu

Thank you Malware for this important information, if I come across any of my customers with an affected model I can now print this off and compare it to their battery for them :)

Guess who's not gonna sell one more battery?

LOL. With HP, Dell and Toshiba pissed off where are they going to sell their batteries?

Sony's quality has really gone downhill the last few years. They don't make things like they used to. :(

Thats why I don't use my laptop on my lap.

Jeez, no wonder I find VAIO lappies at the local pawn shop. This is quite explainable as I have a Sony W580i cell phone that has the crappiest battery life. Better call them up for a recall...
