ASUS is reportedly preparing eight new motherboards based on the AM3/AM2+ sockets, ready for AMD's 45nm desktop CPUs. While two of these have already caught the media's attention, there are more. Tabled below are the eight motherboards based on the AMD 7-series chipsets, the ASUS M4A series, and NVIDIA nForce 700 series (and 900 series chipsets, if the "980a SLI" reference in the table isn't a typo), the ASUS M4N series.

Getting into some details, the M4A79-T is the high-end AMD CrossFireX supportive platform based on the AMD 790FX + SB750 chipset, that supports dual-channel DDR3-1600 (OC) memory. It will feature four PCI-Express x16 slots. The M4A79 Deluxe supports DDR2 memory. It is known that the upcoming AM3 socket Phenom II processors will be backwards compatible with AM2+ (DDR2) platforms. The M4A78T-E is the based on the AMD 790GX + SB750 chipset, it supports DDR3. The M4A78-E supports DDR2, while being based on the same chipset. The M4N series motherboards, start from the 3-way SLI supportive M4N82 Deluxe based on the 780a/980a SLI chipset, again it isn't known if the chart sourced has a typo. There is the M4N72-E based on the nForce 750a SLI, and finally the M4N78 Pro. All the M4N motherboards support DDR2 memory.

980a.... WOOT! Can't wait to see the full specs!! My lord can't Wait to see it!

I wonder why there is no DDR3 with that chipset?

ASUS sandbagging at its finest. I still don't have Phenom II support for a 790FX ASUS board I bought less than an year ago :ohwell:

yea, thats what i want to know. when did nvidia launch 900 series chipsets? Or this is some mistake?

good question, erocker. why in the world would ATI chipsets support DDR3 and nvidia's wouldnt?

Wasn't there some sort of article during the summer that said AM3 wouldn't have SLI support or something?

It will work with it.. I've seen a few people hitting 4ghz with them.

I hope it's not true that they are sandbagging... I love Asus, and DFI.. But won't know about EvGA until the board comes back from rma... That's taking their sweet time!

I'm still figuring on what to do.. Can't believe a 940be is $275!!! Man, it looks sweet!

Finally some fresh boards coming out on the AMD side too.

i love my 780a wonder how nice the 980a is....

that must be a mistake, there are no 900 series. plus nvidia would've made 800 series first, i think.

just like they wouldn't rename a POS GPU to make it sound better than an older one?

i heard no announcement regarding new chipsets. but you are right about the GPUs.

maybe it is just a 780a remake if you read closely they have an onboard GPU that has no video output it only functions for hybrid SLI

remember Guys, this is the start of CES... We'll probably get the news and announcements in the coming days.. Just the start guys.

true, good point, i read that but my mind didnt register it

and Cold Storm could be right also, announcements may be on the way.

It would be nice if Nvidia releases some updated chipsets hopefully with DDR3 support for the new Phenoms.

Just threw a Newegg wish list together for the PII's.. 500 to come to me with mobo and processor. Not bad since I'd have to go about $750ish for i7... But, that's just me!

Not only that but you get an unlocked multiplier VS having to up the FSB.

Dont say that, asus fans might hear and get upset :(
