ASRock to Start Selling Notebooks After CeBIT 2009

Here's today's big news coming directly from CeBIT 2009. Apparantly, ASRock - a subdivision of ASUS - has decided to start production of entry-level notebooks and nettops.

Motherboard maker ASRock is showcasing new entry-level notebooks and a nettop at CeBIT 2009. The company has confirmed its 12.1-inch notebook is named the MultiBook G12, is equipped with a dual-core processor, and weighs around 1.7kg. The company also has a 15.6-inch notebook, the M15, which comes with either an Intel Pentium or Celeron processor.The two notebooks will start shipping to Europe or China markets after CeBIT 2009 ends.
The company is also showcasing the S330 nettop equipped with a dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor and 160GB hard drive.

They are the only peeps I know of doing dual core Atom 330.

Interestingly enough ASRock products sometimes look more innovative than what's coming out of ASUS itself. Especially when it comes to some of their motherboards. (As I understand it, ASRock is a value-oriented subsidiary of ASUS.)

But then again, as far ASUS is concerned, they are on bottom of my list of quality manfuacturers. Their support is generally lacking in almost every area. I've even heard of horror stories of people in North America having to RMA their older generation motherboards (still warrantied) to their Taiwan HQ instead of the American one. Between their overpriced and overhyped EeePC, exploding USB ports, and terrible support I think I will stick to other brands.

Also, while that notebook seems nice, it will probably be overpriced ASUS-style. I bought a Gateway P-6831 FX gaming laptop in December of 2008 for around $630. It had a 17.1 inch screen, 250GB drive (with space for another for RAID0 purposes), 3GB of RAM, and a nVidia gaming GPU capable of running both Oblivion and Crysis without problems. I seriously doubt the "entry-level notebooks" pictured above will be able to do that and I guarantee they will cost way more than $630.

I'm really looking forward to the G12. In my opinion Asrock makes good products with very good price/performance. I don't know about their service as I haven't had any problems yet.
If the G12 retails at 400€ or below I might give it a try.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but every single AsRock mainboard I have bought has been good. And I'm still running AGP 3850 with Q6600 on DDR1 and pulling great benchmarks. (AsRock 775i65)

here asrock is almost all you can find, i used them and they are good and probably the best features for the price, the only con is that msi, gigabyte and asus offers better mobos (not better value for the money)
