NVIDIA partner Gainward is preparing to launch a custom Radeon HD 4850 that, instead of the usual GDDR3 memory, utilizes GDDR5 memory. Gainward calls the card Radeon HD 4850 Golden Sample Goes Like Hell, pretty long name for a card, but you can always use the Radeon HD 4850 GS GLH abbreviature. The card's specifications include 512 MB of GDDR5 memory with 256-bit memory interface, a dual-slot cooler, and D-Sub, DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI connectors. Clock speeds for this particular model are 700 MHz for the GPU and 3600 MHz for the memory. Gainward's HD 4850 512MB GS GLH is expected to hit the stores in a few weeks time.

Whats the improvement of GDDR5 over GDDR3?

so it's a underclocked 4870?

more closer of the HD4870!

A quad data rate over the double data rate of DDR3. 800mhz DDR5 = 1600mhz DDR3. Also runs cooler and takes less power.

They are so smart, they invented the 4870... again :D

If they price this at £120 inc VAT here in the UK, then I may purchase one over a 4870.

Umm, why? This is just basically an underclocked 4870. Honestly just give it a little extra voltage via a software mod and up the core clock by like 100mhz and it will be a 4870.

Which is why I'm hoping they'll price this one accordingly, but you're right. We won't see it at a decent price.

We never do - we are in the UK after all. Something can be £200 here but only $200 in the states, its ridiculous.

all 4850s should have this in the first place -_-

That cooler looks familiar...ah, the Palit GTS 250 we reviewed has the same one.

If it has 2 6pin connectors then its just a 4870 underclocked.Either way with voltmod u can surpass a 4870!

The same here in Greece. They retailers think $=euro!!!Very funny!Thats why o always RMA my VGA each year or every 6months!!!I havent bought a VGA 2 years now...and i had at least 6!lol

Lol when talking "again," Nvidia is a good suspect. But I do agree this is the same stuff... Wonder how many stream procs it has.

4850 Now has GDDR5, i knew it was coming, AMD is moving away from GDDR3

only major difference was the PCB the Chip was on, the Cores are the same.
