Leading video game developer BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. today officially announced Mass Effect 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the multi award-winning 2007 hit, Mass Effect. The Mass Effect trilogy is a masterful science fiction adventure set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life forms and mysterious uncharted planets. In this dark second chapter, Saren's evil army of Geth soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, who are still struggling to make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even greater peril…

"We're going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager and CEO, BioWare and General Manager and Vice President, EA. "Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action."

Mass Effect 2 is coming to PC and the Xbox 360 video game system in Early 2010. To see the exclusive new Mass Effect 2 teaser trailer check out the website here: masseffect.com

"Dark" second chapter? If they turned it into a horror-action game, they just lost a customer.

"...expanded weapon options..." - The original was severely lacking in that department.

"...increased depth of planet exploration..." - And that department.

"...powerful, emotionally engaging story..." - As long as they improved the length, I'm all for it.

The release date got bumped from late 2009 to "early 2010." Kind of odd how they are talking so much about it when it has at least another 9 months of development to go.

mass effect already has epic storytelling so if its on par or above that but a bit longer then that will be an improvement

also variety of weapons wasnt a concern as you could get better rifles and shotguns ect seemed okay to me but there were no heavy weapons so i guess they could add in some

i liked planet exploration but you couldnt go everywhere and rightly so coz it would be hard to create and program a little bit more variety and depth is whats needed not just a bigger map with more missions

Sweet....I should replay Mass Effect all over.

I'm not really a fan of Mass Effect... I would prefer a proper (singleplayer) sequel/something to Knights of the Old Republic.

ok this is a must buy for my xbox360 :toast:

Fantastic! I really enjoyed Mass Effect! Can't wait for the the next installment!

I bought Mass Effect really cheap for the 360 cus it had such good reviews, its ok. Does it get better after the first level?

I am on the bit where you get off a train, I think, on the first level and havent played since. :ohwell:

Sounds good! Mass Effect the original was a good game! Just no more strange alien relations this time...

What you are currently playing is basically the tutorial. After that, you spend a lot of time on the citadel to learn the back story. You aren't really on your own until you get off the citadel.

I hope they "fill out" the side quests a bit better when visiting planets that are not part of the main story. I would love to see more city type of environments, etc.

I wish they'd get rid of all the map transitions/load screens. The only way that'd happen though is if they dropped support for Xbox360...which they won't. *sigh*

Yes I can't wait for this!

this is interesting because Bioware isn't really known for doing sequels. Icewind Dale II (Black Isle), Neverwinter Nights II (Obsidian) and Knights of the old Republic II (Obsidian) were done by other developers. however they did do Baldur's Gate II which was a gigantic improvement over the first.

EA's hand is forcing Bioware's decisions. EA's second in command is Bioware's first in command, if I'm not mistaken.

Not to mention, I am half-convinced that Mass Effect for EA is supposed to be the equivalent of Halo for Microsoft. Once EA smells money, they pursue it until it is beaten to a bloody pulp (e.g. The Sims, SimCity, Need for Speed, and most other EA franchises). It is very difficult for me to convince myself that Mass Effect 3 won't suck unless EA changes their business model sometime between now and then.

Needless to say, my hopes aren't very high for Mass Effect 2 if the other series provide clues about it.
