Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced its patented RAIDDrive, which dramatically increases the performance and slot capacity of PCI Express-based storage solution. The new RAIDDrive is the market's largest and most innovative server-based solid-state storage solution, and an extension of its patented technology from the RAIDSSD product lines.




RAIDDrives support up to 2 TB of MLC or SLC Nand Flash memories, have a turbocharged DRAM Cache, and the RAIDDrive ES is fully battery backed to protect data in the event of power loss. The RAIDDrives connect through a PCIe Gen. 2.0 x8 interface and are capable of delivering sequential Read speeds of up to 1.2 GB/s, sequential Write speeds of up to 1.3 GB/s. More performance details will be unveiled in June. As an optional feature users will be able to configure the drives with an internal RAID5 capability to deliver an extra level of data protection for mission critical applications.


SuperTalent is releasing three families of RAIDDrives with features optimized for different market segments:
  • RAIDDrive ES - Enterprise Servers performing compute intensive applications such as database transaction processing, business intelligence, and virtualization.
  • RAIDDrive WS - Workstation users performing tasks including animation, video editing, oil and gas exploration, CAD/EDA simulation, and scientific computing,
  • RAIDDrive GS - Gamers looking to supercharge their IO Subsystem

Super Talent has been pioneering the development of RAIDed SSDs with multiple patents granted since 2003 and has been shipping SSDs with internal RAID structures in the RAIDSSD product lines for many years. This doesn't mean a thing before some rigorous testing concerning reliability/durability. I really don't care much about n-tier players like SuperTalent etc., the only thing they do is rebranding and very little own research. If I owned a server that would need this speed (and ammount of fast storage), SuperTalent would be the last on my list (maybe they've still got some of those super-fast JMicron chips onboard? Wow!). Besides, this really isn't any hot news, similar devices exist for some time now. I wonder why they bother with PR announcements like this at all, it's pointless.

That's a PCI-E x4 connector. hardly longer than a 16x slot that card.

and there you have it folks yet another card with big promises for SEQUENTIAL read/write speeds. amazing as it may be i would rather fir myself with one that can give me 300MBPS random read/write speed and well...it will probably outperform this thing when it comes to real world usage not the everest benchmark. oh well i think you also need to sell a lung and your first born [probably your soul too] to get a 2gb ssd. lets see if the price is about 4$ a GB [and thats a bit under] we would go to 4X2024=8096 dollars :D
actually the OCZ 1TB SSD costs 1500$. so lets call it 3000$ shall we? oh and BTW the OCZ drive [if the report was true] gives out 1Gbps of sequential read/write

Wow, instead of just blatantly disagreeing, you couldn't correct my ignorance by saying something like, "It's only half a PCI-E slot"?

My apologies, I just took a quick look at it. Either way, my point still stands, that's a long fkin card.
 
That would cost arm leg and a kidney.
 
It's an interesting idea, and would give me a use for the 2nd pci-e slot collecting dust.:laugh:
