The offficial release candidate (RC) version of the next-generation operating system from Microsoft - Windows 7 - will be publically released on May 5th, and should be available for MSDN and Technet subscribers now. This information comes directly from Microsoft, who by mistake updated one of the Windows 7 related web pages to display the following text: "Partners: if you have a subscription to MSDN or TechNet, you can download Windows 7 RC now. Otherwise, you can download Windows 7 starting May 5, 2009." As you can expect, the page is now fixed and the text was removed. The page has now been reverted back to inform about Windows 7 beta, and how to obtain trial keys for partners.

Alright! Hopefully they don't change the date on us. Because I would most certainly like to have 1 official build/RC until the launch of 7.

Should pop up on torrents here pretty quick.

One would think. I'm keeping an eye out the next few days.

Oooo, hopefully my SupremeFX drivers will work properly on this. Hate randomly not having sound.

hehe, erm i did not get that in win7 although i got it in Vista which was solved by not installing any drivers as then it used MS's.

"Windows 7 Ultimate x64 build 7077 RC" is out on torrents already.

I thought there were higher build #'s than that? perhaps the torrent is mislabeled.

edit: checking around, the new build is meant to be 7200

also found this
7105 or higher are NOT RC builds, but rather winmain builds pushing towards RTM. 7077, 7078, 7079, 7080 etc… are all RC ESCROW builds. When the RC has passed testing, they will compile the final RC build as 7100.
Build 7106, which leaked the other day in chinese, is in fact 7076 with a revved up build number. So currently 7077 is the newest from a code perspective as 7106 does not contain the new visual style elements (updated taskbar buttons etc…;) that are in 7077. So for all of you who have 7077, stick with it and don’t bother with 7106.

Well, i cant see it on my msdn yet =/

from googling

You have to have a PAID subscription first, AND you have to be OEM partner to get it right now. It is available only to GOLD memebers.

see post 117 onwards. seems to be that the release was a woopsie, and that reports of it being out are fake (at present)

May 5th is the technet release date, the other stuff is incorrect/screwups.

Edit:
From posts on the technet thread above, it seems the technet subscriber release is the 5th of may, and the public gets it on the 15th.

Update The TechNet page now takes you to the beta site again. It looks like we're waiting till May, though testers should get a new build sometime next month.

paid subscription, got it, oem partner, who knows

If this version has the stupid Product Activation like Win XP Oem/Retail versions Ill go with a Volume License Key if i can get one.

I heard that the whole OS is supposed to run from MS server ?

.... you heard the raving rambles of a madman. That would be a very poor OS... imagine if you lost your net connection, lol.

I wish MS could improve their activation system though without having to call. If anyone here has used Alcoholsoftware products, you'd know how neat their activation systems are.

you can activate MS OS's online too, for the most part. I've done online and over the phone... annoying yes, but fairly straightforward.

So 7077 IS the RC? I'm on it now, it's definitely not finished. They NEED to fix the slow networking BS. It's starting to annoy me.

Well, for those who change their hardware so many times in a year, online activation gets nuked too soon. I want an online activation method that involves using a webpage where machine keys, which I can manage, are assigned to MS products.

7100 will be the RC.

what slow networking? at least build 7000 doesnt have teh slow networking bug when audio is playing, like vista does.

For some reason when I try to move stuff from my server to my rig it gets rediculously laggy until the transfer stops. Happened on 7000 and 7077.. Doesn't happen on XP or Vista for some reason. Other than that.. It's ok. I still prefer Vista somewhat.

I'm part of the Business Partner, and the Download isn't yet available..not sure if the torrent's will have it just yet.

So RC means they basically have everything in place to have a working sell-able copy?

I was thinking of buying a netbook for like 280 strictly for seeing how windows 7 runs on it.

Well, it does stand for Release Candidate...

But there are usually a handful of RCs before an RTM (release to manufacture--'official release')

Either way, it looks like we'll have an RTM before summer is over.

There is usually 2 release candidates, before RTM which is the final copy.

this problem is with burning, encoding and unzipping big files it lags the OS technet guys says the RC should be better
