Windows 7 to Hit Retail This Holiday Season

they've done open betas for years, i know i had ME and 2000. betas/RC's.

The only difference now is that its for download, as opposed to being given out at conferences and public displays.

thus making it more accessible and in turn, generating more error reports and feedback to make improvements I might add

oh i agree that its a good move. but imagine if they'd done it in the ME days... 56k cant handle 700MB ISOs :)

hell, CD burners were expensive enough.

it could if you set it to DL when you went to bed and let it go till you got home from work the next day, how you think I got my first music collection(kazaa FTW before people started getting sued, remember, I am talking about 10 years ago)

all the dial up ISP's i've ever had, auto disconnected after 4 hours :(

guess I was really lucky with my dial up. 52,000 bps connection speeds and no auto-disco's. That was on Compuserve.

Hahaha!! True enough, but even when they had the chance with 2000 then XP and Vista they didn't....so helluva good move on their part...they'll definitely corner the market now.

Remember the huge Windows 95 hoopla which was also an X-mas release? Everybody was going nuts about it!! I look back now and say.."What was the big deal?"

When i was on dial up i got nobbled to half speed thanks to Telstra changing the phone lines.

Oh god....I'm starting to hear 2 and 4Gb hard disks working with pentiums cacheing temporary internet files in the temporary internet files folder non-stop and dial-up modems connecting....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

If this does truely get released on your birthday mussels i too will add $5 to the pot.

Looking forward to this release, i will have until march to buy it for my main rig though. Hope it'll come down in price something by then.

So basically we'll see the stand alone os for purchase at the end of October, then computers will start to be sold with it preloaded later on?

or possibly both at the same time. MS could make sure they have RTM ready to go on that date, people pre-ordering and so on.

Well I cant wait:)
*counts my money*

I'm getting it

I'm so glad I went with my gut and avoided Vista like the plague. XP x64 is still running great, I can hold out for 7's release whenever that might actually be.

so im guessing we will see dx11 cards coming out for xmass too then, cant wait :D

DX11 cards from my understand were supposed to be hitting the market by the end of the summer.

I know a VIP beta tester for 7, and he said the MS has not really listened to any of their advice compared to Vista (which may have resulted in the too much at once) - basically they are left in the dark and MS is doing it's own thing - maybe it's paid off because the VIP testers loved Vista and look how it turned out - the media crucified it. I hope MS repeats the same formula with Windows 8 because it's a clear winner.

Probably gonna buy OEM Ultimate x64. Retail usually comes with x86.. ewwww.

Actually, Vista came with 2 DVDs - one x86 and one x64

EDIT: though it's 2 DVDs, it's one key for both versions.

Upgrade can sometime mean throwing half of your software away and maybe, the hardware need to be upgrade too. NTY, Vista is mighty fine for what I need.

I've had no problems with any boxed software, like Office, Sony ACID or PS CS4 - the only apps that will not run that I use are Chrome and AIM - both will surely be updated and ready to go by RTM. If your PC has a 1 GHz CPU and 1 GB or RAM, 7 will run - from what I can tell on here, everyone seems to have 2 GB or more, and the latest dual and quad core CPUs, so TPU users are 7 ready =P

That's right...x64 baby!! Trying not to install too much while using RC1 Right now...anxiously awaiting full retail x64 Ultimate!!! :rockout:

Im assuming it will be like other windows were it dont really shine till after a sp or 2.

same here; and that's what i'm telling my customers.........wait a bit to work out the final wrinkles:wtf::wtf:

Im wondering though if the sps for it will be like Vista which were combination of all updates.
