Photofast is on a roll with its G-Monster series solid-state storage, with product launches on a monthly basis. This time around, the company is readying two products that are unique in their own ways. First up, is the G-Monster-3.5, the company's first SSD in the standard 3.5" form-factor. The drive uses internal RAID to achieve high-capacities. While most other SSD manufacturers would simply stripe two SSD modules in internal RAID 0 configurations, Photofast used an internal RAID 5 configuration that ups reliability. The array is completely abstract to the host machine, which only sees it as a single drive. The drive uses a standard SATA II interface. It comes in capacities of 64, 128, 256, 512 GB, and 1, 2 TB. As far as its performance goes, the company rates the read/write speeds around 270 MB/s. The drive will be backed by a one-year warranty.

Next up, is the G-Monster ExpressCard/54 SSD. This drive serves the purpose of expandable, removable storage for notebooks, that performs on par or faster than the hard-drive. The card comes in the standard 54 mm ExpressCard form-factor. It can function in both PCI-Express and USB 2.0 modes for the slot. When in PCI-Express mode, the drive provides stellar read/write speeds of 170/100 MB/s, and in USB 2.0 mode, 36/30 MB/s. It comes in 32, 48, and 64 GB variants, and boasts of 1.5 million hours MTBF. It will be backed by a standard one-year warranty. There is no word on the pricing and availability.

2TB already:eek:
I dont want to see the price tho:P

I have to wonder, aside from Bill Gates, who would pay so much for these things?

For sure it will be overpriced... 2TB:twitch:. Holy crap, photofast has sooo many different SSD products!

btw,I really like that tcmagazine logo but I prefer ''clean'' photos:)

The prices are probably gonna be killer...But I sure wouldn't mind getting that express card :D

Guys, you will not believe this !!!

The 128GB is almost $3000 O_O !!!

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001LR8ZN0/?tag=tec06d-20

EDIT : sorry I forgot to read the description, this is the price of ten SSD's. From what I've seen, it seems they don't sell it alone, they sell it as packages.

If you divided 3000 by 10 the price should be : $300.

i think the biggest problem is "one year warranty" so no matter price, perf. or capacity these drives will die after 18 months maybe so who need it?

every product is made in our days to hold at least the warranty period and after...buy the new one...

Ignoring the price for the moment, and referring only to the 3.5" & raid 5 issue,

WHAT THE FFK TOOK YOU SO BLOODY LONG!!?!?!?!

That's only what EVERYBODY has been saying in just about EVERY forum, FOREVER!!!!!

Well at least it finally happened... FINALLY...

Now these jokers will get the credit for "Inventing" it? Oh well.. whatever, technologically it IS a good thing.

There are 3.5" and RAID-5 issues?

I think what he is talking about, and the reason I thanked him, is the most anticipated creation of 3.5" SSD drives. 2.5" is the only flavor they have come in, so far, and for desktop users, that has no advantages, rather only disadvantages.

Although, I don't care either way, personally. I don't see why SSD's are better than HDD's for storage and I don't need more than 64GB for housing my OS. To me, SSD's are the next-generation Raptors, and nothing more.

I'm looking forward to see how raid0 performs on this baby. *lets wait for review* !!

I wonder what keeps these companies afloat. Probably governments invest in this kind of stuff... or a company like lockheed martin, etc.

They probably have other products to support this kind of investment...

SSD's are going to replace HDD evetually. I think it's great that someone is at least stepping up and building higher capacitys now.
