AMD Phenom II X4 TWKR 42 Auctioned for 11600 USD

gaurenteed high overclock. that's bout it, though i'd bet theres a few lucky PII 955's out there than can clock just as good.

wow....definitely not worth 11,600 I would of bought a care with that much money....people are sad...

Yep, if I had 11,600 to spend for an AMD cpu, I'd just buy 50 955's, and still have money left over. Then I would pick the best clocker, and sell the rest to recoup some money, then just donate to a damn charity myself.

Imo, there is no core difference with retail 955. The only thing that set it apart is internal memory controller. TWKR cpu's imc is not following retail specs and known to have high leakage, thats why it can scale to 5 ghz nb with extreme cooling.
Its not for sale anyway and will always a property of AMD

This is insane  At least AMD is giving to money to charity:toast:

There are people out there that make enough to just throw their money away:twitch:

The news should read $11600 donated for charity, winner gets a AMD Phenom II X4 TWKR for his/her kind gesture.

One of the CPUs is killed a while back, now only 98 left (counting the one for sale), where ever they are. 3 have been tortured in the same even the first was killed.

If it had a dot between the 6 & the 0 then that would make more sense.

so much for a lame piece of silicon? at least its better than my pentium d

Yea! The Phenom II architecture is so lame!

It's not insane. If you were a person with a lots of money, give in not 12.000$ but 120.000$ or even more is not a problem, as long those money are going for something charitable. ;)

Those guys probly received it as a working sample from AMD Austin. Those are property of AMD

So they all read, "not for sale". Maybe there is/was no plan to even sell them. Just use them for publicity, like this charity, previous OC event and competition prices.

Well that's cool too, makes them even more special. However it'll mean that only way to get one, is to overpay in online auction to someone who has got it for free :)

a cpu with high leakage won't overclock well only those with small leakage and these TWKR are from the last ones

i forget.. i think this auction is only to test the market and is also a good advertise

here is a little explaination for you guys :)

http://ripping.org/database.php?cpuid=705

That cpu are there probaly 100 000 of, meaning its 100 times as hard to set a world record on.
How much is a world record cpu worth to some ?
5000$
Charity.
1000000000 $ +

Still not worth youre money, well it was worth some1's money, In a land like USA every1 would die cause they didnt get help/service at their elder care if everyone was like you.

And i didnt mention any names, WE all are diffrent and we all have diffrent values, accept that some got others than you. :)

For me, its not worth 10000 though, for others it is.
Well if i had 200 0000 on my bank account, i would concider it :D

Imsochobo thanks for the link

charity my ass!!!

from the website...

"with part of the proceeds being donated to Hacklab.TO, an open community space bringing together artists, computer programmers, and hardware hackers to create and share projects for the common good. The rest goes to an OCAD educational fund."

Hacklab.to is an "educational" hacking community in Toronto (think: people sitting around and messing with computers) and OCAD is the Ontario College of Art and Design.

Thanks rhino man for some edumacation

I'd rather buy 50 955 X4's, pick the best one, sell the rest, and just donate directly to charity.

I love how the processors say "Not for Sale" right on the IHS, and they are still trying to sell them. I'd be careful, if ebay catches on, they are likely to get banned. And in certain cases, I've seen ebay/paypal refund the buyers money for things like this(engineering sample processors).

It certainly would suck to suddenly have $11,000 disappear from your account...

better off with 8 or so Nehalem Xeons and go for a true performance server/workstation/gaming machine? lol... with the 11.000$. After all, OC is about performance, isn't it?
How about 4 Xeons and a professional water cooling circuit for them? I'm not a pro at those kinda prices so feel free to correct me.
I also have a feeling the 2nd CPU won't get past 3.000 $.

better to get a like some 6 core opterons and have tyan do the bios and hardware mods needed to give you full clocking and gfx support on one of their high end server boards with backrail(allows you to effectivly have 2 boards back to back for more proc/ram/expantions space)

thats why they will take the money out and close the acct as soon as the $ is deposited.

on a side note, alot of times AMD and Intel both just dont give a crap about ES chips being sold once the retail versions/equivlants hit the market, OR if they never hit the market, its when they are new or not out yet that both companies really do care about these chips being sold.

Oh I have also seen some OEM chips made for companies like dell that said "not for resale" or "not for sale" on them, pretty funny really since they are in retail systems......surprised they dont say that on all OEM chips just to make it illegal to re-sell parts you replace out of your POS oem box.

Paypal doesn't care if the account is close, if you had a bank account linked to it, they will take it from there, and if you don't have the money there, they will try to get it from one of the credit cards you used to create the account.

I know AMD/Intel doesn't usually care, but it is still against ebay policies. Hell even ebay doesn't seem to care sometimes, and others they seem to try and make examples of...

i ment the bank account being closed, if the bank accts closed, paypal cant exectly take the money out of it can they?

oh and people pull this all the time use a prepaid CC, make a pp acct, sell shit, get the money, close the bank acct and cut and run, prepaid cc's arent linked to you directly and many banks are easy to make accts at under a false name.

fact is, if somebody wants to screw somebody else over and has the brains, they can, and they can get away with it to!!!

Oh definitely, it is incredibly easy to scam people using ebay and paypal, which is probably why it happens so often.
