Microsoft Corp. today announced the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the next versions of its flagship desktop and server operating systems. With the completion of this development phase, industry partners are readying products in time for the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 worldwide general launches. Windows 7 will be generally available to customers around the world on October 22, and Windows Server 2008 R2 will be generally available on or before that date. As always, current customers of the Windows Volume Licensing program, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscribers and TechNet subscribers will be among the first to get customer access to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 in the coming weeks.

Microsoft will make the announcement on its Windows Team and Windows Server Blogs later today. More information about today's news is available via the following links:

Following the news we covered earlier today, "in the coming weeks" for TechNet and MSDN subscribers is in fact August 6th.

The Windows Team Blog have confirmed the final build is 7600.

And as I said in the other thread, it is now time to grab a Technet subscription. lol.

I'm so mad I missed the free technet signup a while back.

Didnt you hear?

They all got cancelled

It was a reward for this programme but MS didnt create unique one time links, so the server let anyone sign up. As it is, they terminated everyones free subscription who wasnt eligible.

Did 7600.16385 end up been the rtm?

According to Windows7news.com it is. However I cannot find any official sources to confirm this yet. Other than the blog saying it is a 7600 build.

haha same here, I was angry I missed out and to hear they got canceled:eek::laugh: That kinda sucks for all those users..oh well.

Anyway Win7 feels so far away for me yet so close. I was going to get Vista about 6 months ago but I decided to wait for 7. I am so ready for a new OS because XP is starting to piss me off:p

Get the RC! its good till May 2010 - Ive installed it on all the rigs in my house even though I own Windows Fail Ultimate Edition x64.

You can have 7 tonight!

hahaha well when you have to buy loads of copies of windows 7 when it all expires you let me know how that goes okay none offence its just whats going to happen
dont bother talking about pirating its taboo

ill see the hundreds of reviews of it before i touch it infact i have a backup hard drive i can run it on so maybe i can still try it, for me it looks like windows 98 to windows 98se

vista is not near as fail as windows ME, my bro had ME and that was a piece of shit came pre installed on his pc :shadedshu

OMG... Windows ME... what an epic load of garbage .

7 is actually really good, reviews are all good too - but its always better to try, maybe on an empty partition or some cheapo disk. This is the one MS OS that I will have no problems actually paying for.

Dem's Fightin" Words!!!!!

Are you suggesting that the RC version could kill your hard drive? I'm on MS Technet right now and they are saying: "Don’t install Windows 7 RC on your primary home or work computer", but it doesn't say WHY? I'm assuming it's because it can cause file corruption. I have a brand new WD 640 gb hdd I have been saving for a new OS. Can I just use the new hdd in my home PC? (New hdd so I don't have to worry about backing up my files in case of and epic fail of the os)

No, it's because it's kind of in a beta state, and because it expires. It's just them covering their own asses. You get the same generic "use at your own risk" warnings from any beta or RC software.

I've been saying this for a week! M$ has just been jerking us around since the 13th. I already have the ISO sitting on my desktop waiting for these clowns to officially say it's RTM.

7600.16385 added a lot more drivers over 16384.

I assume it was ready to go, then they did a 'last call' to the OEM's asking what drivers they wanted included by default.

I liked ME more than 98SE to be honest.

I have found memories of 98SE. So much so that I install it occasionally and toy around. Then realise how fricken awful it is and go insane.

it IS rtm.... BUT they will make a new build to round up the number (lost the source) but it's 99% most likely to be 7600.1800 ;) so as soon as you see that build then that's the "official" rtm

the only thing changing between the sub builds that people have found so far, is the included drivers being updated/increased.

Soon soon, my dear, i shall get you soon...

I have it :D
