Akasa Rolls Out AK-968 X4 CPU Cooler

Cooling solutions OEM Akasa's newest offering is the AK-968 X4 CPU cooler. This value offering is designed to oust your stock CPU cooler for better performance at a low price. Measuring 135 (H) x 109 (W) x 90 (D) mm, and weighing 458 g, the AK-968 X4 resembles similar coolers in its category such as the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. Its design involves a copper base plate from which three u-shaped copper heatpipes pass, conveying heat to an aluminum fin array, which is actively cooled by a 92 mm PWM-controlled fan that spins at speeds between 600 ~ 2500 rpm pushing up to 47.7 CFM of air, with a noise output of 17.0 ~ 29.5 dBA. It supports all current desktop CPU sockets, including Intel LGA-1366, LGA-1156, LGA-775, AMD s939, and AM3/AM2/AM2+. It is currently listed for £20 at a popular British etailer.

if its as good as a freezer 7 pro i'd buy one if the price is right, my freezer 7 pro has been cooling my intel core 2 duo E6550 overclocked to 2800mhz for a long time now and temps stay well below 50c.

If you want cheap and effective without 120mm size, try the Kingwin (yeh I know) XT-964. I normally wouldn't suggest anything from them but I liked the results so well I bought another.

I can get Artic Freezer 7s for 16-17 pounds in the UK.

They have better fans so go with them ha ha

well i only payed a £10er for my arctic cooling freezer 7 pro and its like £16+ everywere else i have seen localy so i can't moan and i personly don't see the point spending more for a so called better cooler if my temps are already low.


and yes i do know there are a lot better coolers out there for around £16 to £20 but i realy don't see the need to spend that much if its not needed.

I would say Xigamatek scorpions are a good investment over the Freezer 7 coolers.

Much better over all performance and they work better overclocked.

Around 3ghz though Freezer 7 pros are king.

I have the 965 (intel only version of this)
Its rated very highly in frosty tech, I assume this will be the same just with multiple mount system.

Incidentally on the hottest cpu I have (a dual core 820D-OC) under orthos load test this gave the best performance around 45c loaded, very good. Beating my xigmatec 92mm by about 8c even tho that has 'direct touch' pipes. And beating the xig 120mm by 3c.

I havent experienced the arctic 7, not keen on open fan design. Had a horizontal version on an AMD years back and it sucked, worse than stock! plus any stray wire gets zinged by the blades.

I've used both the Freezer 7 pro and Freezer 64 and they both work better then stock.

Even had an e5200 running at 4.2ghz for a while.

Without a doubt the best budget coolers.

Unless this thing performs as well as you say.
