EVGA and NVIDIA are readying a unique multi-GPU graphics accelerator this Halloween, slated for October 30. To celebrate its launch, the two have organized a launch party for 300 lucky participants who will go to the NVIDIA Plaza in Santa Clara, CA and witness the launch of the new GeForce product. The accelerator packs two GPUs: a G200b, and a G92b. That's right, a GeForce GTX 200 series GPU, with a GeForce GTS 250 GPU. This is perhaps the first graphics accelerator to pack two entirely different GPUs. How it works, however, is interesting: the G200b GPU handles graphics, while the G92b is dedicated to PhysX processing. The accelerator could have 896 MB of graphics memory, with 512 MB of dedicated memory for the PhysX GPU. You can sign up for the event here.

sounds like a total waste of power, that second GPU would hardly get used...

 What a joke, it should be April fools not Halloween..:nutkick:

wow.... they keep finding uses for the G92 core don't they?

I'd expect them to have a GT310 or something soon which uses a G92 core  or a G92 core with DX11.

why??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

That makes very little sense.

Now if it was a GT300 series and GT200 series for physx that would be almost cool.

Nvidia sells more old products than a 2nd hand store!

nvidia is a 2nd hand store that gets products in and renames them 4 times before selling them.

If it were like Mac Pro laptops where the weaker one was used in 2D apps while the stronger one would work in 3D apps (saving power), I would like it but, if the second GPU is solely intended for PhysX which few games require, I'd say they are wasting their time.

And let me guess, they're going to market it as "Frankenstein" or "Monster."

i'd like that.

as an example, geforce GTX 260 running 'SLI' with say... a 9400GT

(or in the ATI camp, a 4890 w/ 4200, and 5xxx equivalent)

Ati should just fix theier Hybird Graphics so that an HD4200 onboard will actually work with HD4k cards, and with HD5ks will be a killer.

yeah, atm it only works if the core is the same. better than SLI, but still lacking.

Funny enough, G200b has lower idle power draw than G92b due to its power states.

which makes me bang my head into a sharp stick, thinking that this second GPU is going to be idling 99% of the time...

Those memory numbers can't be right, because a GT200b with only 384MB of RAM (896 - 512 for PhysX) is going to be seriously crippled. It's more likely to be 512MB for the GT200b and 384MB for the G92.

thats 896 on one, 512 on the other. :slap:

D'oh! Missed the "dedicated" bit... still a somewhat pointless card though...

I always though that all this video card manufacturing race is like a joke, you know, like false. I mean, that they already have a way better card, but they lunch them in levels, so they cant sell more, because if they sold the best card now, what will people buy in six month?.
But waching at nvidia, with nothing in his hands... not even an announcement of some stunning proyect or something, makes me rebuild all my thoughs.

I think nvidias next move will be releasing rebranded g92s as dedicated PhysX cards :)
VGA outputs disabled... :D

g92 has to DIE!

I smell deep despair in the green camp... their "releases" are not even funny any more. Well, maybe the 10.1 are just a little funny

This is a cool idea, lots of people have 1 card and a physX card, this would give Micro ATX users that combo with out needing more room.

I think I have 2 games that use physX so its not a huge deal, and I dont realy play one of them much any more, but some of the stuff is cool that I see done with it.

yes, and even that setup is dumb. they can just use their first nvidia card to run GPU accelerated physX, so it doesnt make any sense then either.

that link says halloween.

makes me think "april fools" dunno why

also you complely missed our conversation, we were talking about a combination that would make SENSE, as opposed to the card mentioned in the OP/news article

The ULTIMATE Nvidia fan boys card lol

they're really going to have to push Physx hard if they want this to take at all, or price the cards nice and cheap....
