EKL brand Alpenföhn unveiled its newest CPU cooler, the Matterhorn. This cooler measures 138 x 100 x 158 mm, and weighs 1067 g (2.35 lbs). The construction is similar to that of several coolers in its category. A pre-lapped copper base draws heat from the CPU. From this, six heatpipes pass, conducting heat to a block of aluminum fins. The fins have notches that help heat dissipation over the air being blown by an attached Föhn120 Wing Boost 120 mm fan, which spins at 500 to 1500 rpm, with a max noise output of 24.8 dBA. The Matterhorn supports most current CPU sockets including LGA-1366, LGA-1156, LGA-775, AM3, AM2(+). Its price and availability are yet to be known.

looks like the Thermalright Venomous X

Looks like a mixture of Venomous X and Thors Hammer. I doubt it would be a top performer.

im sure it will be good if its the same design as the thermalright design just not as good as a true thermalright

Tower coolers look the same by design, why does everyone automatically think thermal-right XD They didn't even come up with tower coolers first! heh

Now that's out the way, this thing looks awesome and if its anything like Alpenföhn's other coolers it will be epic and way up there in terms of performance : ]

it looks like a thermalright because of the way the heat pipes are bent ;)

You mean alternating incision point for more even heat distribution ?

Its just sensible D:

Alpenfóhn are a great brand, they make a lot of really good stuff, check out the quality of this one of their other coolers "Brocken"

Oh found fan specs seems they've supplied a real good one

thas a big bish

Looks pretty much designed for low rpm fans.. check how wide those gaps are

It's actually huge in terms of weight as well, generally means there's more metal for heat to go to so this thing could theoretically outperform the venomous X if everything else goes right : ]

Looks good, but doubt It'll beat mine :) If avatar looks familiar to the cooler posted above, it's because it is.

Oh and that thing is massive, could hardly fit it in my case. But it's good, and that new one is surely too.

Gaps look bigger than they are in reality, as the fins overlap each other. If you look the middle part, it's like that the whole cooler. See how the bottom fin goes from side to side.

In a world of Tower Coolers, this is going to be average

It's within 200g of the Noctua NH-D14 with both fans installed. Just saying.

In a world of Tower Coolers, this is going to be average

For what reason?

Cmon guys if your going to criticise or make statements back them up please.

Check out the review for the Brokken cooler

That's above average, this cooler is even bigger and has a better fan, If I were a betting man I'd say this will be a top end air cooler competing with thermalright/noc stuff.

Gota love german engineering :p

no what im getting at is id like to see something Unique. TT Duo Orb was something.

Wasn;t the TT duo orb a POS in terms of cooling though?

The Brand EKL/Alpenföhn is one of the most popular ones in Germany/Austria and they release really good stuff. Check out their latest 3 Towers the Großglockner, Brocken and Nordwand. The latest one relased was Nordwand and it was performance wise on a level with Prolimatech Megahalems only it is cheaper. So i think this one will probably outperform most of the Towers on the Market right now AND will be much cheaper. But if someone wants the best of the best then stick with Noctua the Noctua NH-D14 will stay the best Tower Cooler for some time to come.

I was just going from their site being German :)

@ Don, I sure hope he does

Imagine if he advertised the thing XD

Jep it ist a German Company!

EKL = Alpenföhn = German Company
Noctua = Austrian Company

Looks pretty cool, but would have loved them to continue the DHT tech for this cooler. Can't wait for reviews. Anyone know if these are available state side?
