I have 9600gt card and its showing some artifacts in windows in the upper portion of the screen. The artifacts are present even on boot screen and bios screen. Images attached below. It all started after the system was shut down due to power cut. And now in Gpuz it never reports the Gpu load or the memory controller load or the video engine load, its always 0 no matter i play a game or anything. Is this a software issue or is my gpu damaged?

system :
Intel e7400
Gigabyte g31m-s2l mobo

Xfx 9600gt

Time to bake this gpu :rockout:

i dont think i would be able to do that..
so this is a GPU hardware problem??:(
can it be repaired other than baking?

Try to test the system with another PSU.
It might be that the power-cut damaged the PSU and it is not delivering enough for the 9600GT now.

yea your psu could be damaged, or possibly the card got damaged during the power cut. if you ahve a spare power supply try testing it with that. the 9600gt itself only needs 8amps on the 12v (96w max / 12v @stock clocks) so you don't need a real powerful psu. although due to lack of info being shown on gpu-z suddenly, ima have to go with gpu damage, it seems to me that maybe sensors on the card got damages and perhaps other parts of the card. you may want to run memory and cpu tests to check those for damage as well.

thanks for the replies guys..
i dont have a spare psu.. :(
and 1 more weird thing, gpuz starts reporting the gpu, memory controller, video engine load if i overclock the card and even reports if i again bring it down to stock.. but it wont again at next reboot unless i again just overclock it..

With the power being cut it could be the board and/or the power supply is damaged. Although even with that said, I had this happen and it ended up in a video card RMA. Try a different power supply if you can like others suggested but I highly doubt that will get you anywhere.

That PSU should be fine as my friend is running an e7500 and 9600GT on a 300w PSU with no problems at all. Its probably the card.

right thing to do, if youre out of warranty, just buy a new card. cards faster than 9600GT are cheap nowadays. because the Nvidia 9xxx series is last last gen. :D Try to find some cheap 2xx deals of better if the 5xxx series or wait for 4xx low end cards. :D

either the gpu or vram is in trouble. I've experienced a kind of problem like this on my HD4830.It suddenly giving artifacts all around the screen, and reporting hot temperature.
My solution is by blowing hot air to the gpu and vram area (I do that with heat blower, usually used to remove/plant chips). If you dont have one, try baking the vga for 15-20 minutes.
I suspect that the soldering on the gpu or vram goes bad (cracking).

Now my HD4830 live again with that kind of technique.Even now I used it to post this message :D

you really should have had both, that may be related to why the cards taken damage when the power went out.

its likely the card is just stuffed now, and nothing can fix it. baking it has a small chance, but its likely you need a new card.

one more thing..
the card is connected using dual molex to pcie connector.. but only one molex is connected to the psu.. i hope this is ok.. have been runnning the system like this for a year till now without any problem..

No wonder man. Thats the problem. Fix both and try. And your temps are safe but try to get it down to about 60. My friend has a Manli 9600GT which comes with Arctic Cooling and that runs at about 56c at max load on 50%fan speed.

Oh shit time to update my specs on the signature. My earlier PSU got burnt. Now using a generic 300W PSU. It works fine with the 5750 since it doesn't draw so much power. One of friends is running a 9600GT on a generic 300W PSU as well.

Oh thats really cool.. the card is really good on performance when compared to 9600gt and its also isnt so powerhungry..
