Guys,Fudzilla is suck.Don't bother with them.Ati will not bring new cards before the new year.Ati don't need new cards. For no, because with the 460 from nVidia, must worry a little.

I agree. But we do not allow nudity in avatars LouCi4er. I wish we allowed it, but we try to keep the site "safe for work".

ore AMD goodness headed your way this year.

Zoom

AMD may be ramping up its production schedule, moving its 2011 chip to 2010 instead. AMD CEO Dirk Meyer said during a recent conference call that the company's Ontario ultra-mobile chips are due to arrive in the fall, "ahead of schedule."

Those looking to AMD for ultraportables may want to wait and see what comes out, as Ontario will be built on a 40nm process, using a dual-core Bobcat architecture. It'll have integrated graphics too, with support for DirectX 11 and a built in memory controller.

If you're looking to AMD just for graphics, you might also have something to look forward from ATI. Meyer said at the conference call, "We will start introducing the second-generation of our DX 11 products before the end of the year."'

ATI's second generation DX 11 products, code named Southern Islands, will be fabricated on the 40nm process as well and be branded as the Radeon HD 6000 series.

Most likely a die-shrink and rebrand like Nvidia did with the 9-series. Expect lower heat and power consumption. Possibly higher clocks and lower prices too.

what ??? :wtf:

its clearly stated that it will have NI goodies while still have cypress stream processor. so its certainly NOT just a rebrand

Sad fact is the is no die shrink, 32nm bulk are all cacelled, and 28 isnt untill mid-late next year.
Also, whens the last time AMD ever done a rebrand on desktop chips, like Nvidia did so extensively?

Dont say HD3000 now.

HD3000 they fixed what was broken in HD2900. Same basic design...tweaked to be all it could.

We are still using the same basic "shaders" even. Fact of the matter is, nothing in HD5000 is new, it's just been the same tech slowly boosted in numbers as process tech has allowed. I mean sure, a few things here and there have been tweaked...the scheduler, tesselator, etc...but these are all minor changes to the same R600 chip from so long ago.

So, what is it, exactly, that is going to change? SP count? Display output hardware? Memory bandwidth seems to not be so much of an issue...better tesselator(s)? Sideport brought back?

With DX11 still so new and fresh, you can bet there's not going to be any signifigant changes just yet.

If TSMC has actually fixed the leakage issues of thier process, maybe we will see 2560 shaders, and ATi can take back the performance crown. But the pcb size comapred to the die size tells me that ain't gonna happen any time soon.

But I'll hope all the same.

I think you two will see what I am talking about when the release gets closer. Maybe we don't mean the same thing when we say rebrand. Also AMD fanboys used to flip their shit when they heard about NV doing it. I think similar tech revised to be sold cheaper and more efficient offerings in between major releases is fine. It might confuse some people or enrage the sensitive types, but it really shouldn't. It is misplaced anger most likely.

I think it's a reach calling it a rebrand. Nobody knows what it's going to be, but I'm guessing (high-end single GPU) something with a larger die, a few more ROP's and a handful more of shaders with some tessellation reworking. It'll be bigger and hotter and follow the same design as we've seen with the RV670 and up. Nvidia set the bar for big and hot and ATi can make a more powerful card with their current architecture with a Nvidia like power and heat numbers.

It will basically be the swan song of this generation of ATi GPU's with the upcoming Northern Islands being something completely new. Again, it's just my guess on it all and I suppose I could see some of ATi's current offerings being rebranded as lower cards if the rebrand thing holds true.

This article is interesting.. but grain of salt kind of stuff: http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/faith/amd-radeon-hd-6870-benchmark-performance/

yes i do hate rebrand, because i think its confusing and misleading consumer. an i do know that ati sometimes rebrand to especially in mobile market.

but i really do hope SI won't be rebrand because i will hate it if that happen and make me boring.

That's what I am waiting for. Im waiting to see when the cheaper Nvidia cards will be coming out and when the 6 series ATI cards come out. I'm waiting for the price to go down before I get a new card. I'm using a 8600GT right now and am interested in some of the current ATI cards but wish I could get one at good discount which you cant.

You are wasting your time.ATI's prices won't go down before the new 6000 series.

Agreed. Atleast till around mid 2011, you won't see a dramatic drop in price. Maybe like 5 or 10 bucks.

Perhaps not just a re-brand, definatly more about tweaks and improvements leading to improved functionality and performance...... a bit like the 4870 > 4890 possibly? or even more.

a price drop is already in progress for 5830's, due to the nvidia 460.
